Report Launch “Trump and the Asia-Pacific: The Persistence of American Unilateralism”

6 March, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

There is a lot of discussion in various fora about the role of China in Asia and the world, but increasingly less of other powerful global forces. The report launch organized by SEA Junction in collaboration with Focus on the Global South on 6 March at 6PM instead takes a look at the economic and strategic relationship of the US with the region. Entitled “Trump and the Asia-Pacific: The Persistence of American Unilateralism”, the report argues that unilateralism has been the dominant manner in which the US has asserted its military and political interests and that it has reached the apex with the Trump administration. Disengagement has become most destabilizing today, with the US waging a trade war against Beijing at the same time that it has escalated the threat of the Pentagon’s offensively-oriented “AirSea Battle” strategy.

The report has just been completed by Focus on the Global South’s founder Walden Bello, who will be at SEA Junction to discuss the US’ presence in the region and launch the report.  Limited copies of this and the previous report by the same author “China: An Imperial Power in the Image of the West?” will be available at the launch as well as on line at:
