Pulau Buru: Tanah Air Beta (Buru Island: My Homeland) is a documentary film by chef and director Rahung Nasution that focuses on the island of Buru. Around the time of the September 30, 1965 coup attempt, which was blamed on the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI), Buru island became a prison for those who were accused of being related to the PKI often without any trial.

Taking a human angle, this documentary tells the story of the return to Buru island of former political prisoner Hersri Setiawan accompanied by his daughter and his friend and also former prisoner Tedjabayu. On the island, Ken learns about her father’s past and emphasizes with his suffering from abuses.

SEA Junction will screen the documentary, in Indonesian with English subtitles twice on 3 and 4 September 2016 at 3.30-5.30PM. After the screening, Director Rahung Nasution and Producer Whishnu Yonar will discuss with the audience about the film and the reasons behind.

On a separate event on 4 September at 10.30 until lunch, the director Rahung Nasution will show his culinary skills, introducing the variety of Indonesia sambel and how to make it.
