“Thailand Young Artists: Our Country, Our Future” Art Exhibition

January 21 @ 11:00 am - January 26 @ 7:00 pm

In October 2019, the World Bank launched the “Thailand Young Artists: Our Country, Our Future” art contest, as part of the 70th anniversary celebration and launch of the new Country Partnership Framework between the Government of Thailand and the World Bank Group, to create an opportunity for the new generation to express and voice their aspirations, goals and opinions on the critical issues facing the country and the future of Thailand.

Over 300 Thai children and youth from across the country, from Bangkok to Chiang Mai in the north and Narathiwas in the south, sent artwork. The young artists used various painting mediums including pastel, watercolor, acrylic, and charcoal on paper and canvas to produce expressive and thoughtful artworks that communicate their hopes and worries for the future of Thailand. A deep concern is the environment and climate change. The submission illustrated their appreciation of sustainable development, and the strong responsibility they feel as stewards and protectors of the environment. The young artists also expressed hope for high quality and accessible education for everyone to uncover their full potential and to live in unity and peace. Importantly, the artworks highlight the diversity embedded in culture, heritage, and the Thai identity, as well as living in harmony with nature and technology.

From these many entries, a panel of judge selected 16 artworks as winners in three age categories, namely 12 years and younger age group; 13-17 age group; and 18-24 age group (read further here). These and additional works will be exposed on 21-26 January on the curve wall, 5th floor, BACC a week after Thailand’s National Children’s Day (this year falling on 11 January).

The exhibition will be officially open with a reception on 21 January at 3 pm hosted by the World Bank in collaboration with SEA Junction, which (tentatively) features a public talk by the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources entitled “Towards a Greener Thailand” and activities with children and young people. The reception is open to the public and all those in attendance will receive an END POVERTY tote bag.
