In Search of Social Justice along the Myanmar and China Oil and Gas Pipeline

Brief Description
The first of SEA Junction Conversation Series on Regional Development focused on the impacts on local communities of the Sino-Myanmar oil and gas pipelines planned to link Myanmar’s deep-water port of Kyaukphyu (Sittwe) in the Bay of Bengal with Kunming in Yunnan province of China.

The speaker, independent researcher and development expert Zaw Aung presented the results of a research he recently conducted for the Myanmar-China Pipeline Watch. His sharing is not only relevant for Myanmar, as also in other countries in the region infrastructure projects in the pursuit of natural resources exploitation and economic growth have multiple and far-reaching environmental and social impacts not always appreciated by institutional actors.
