The mini book fair, held on the first weekend of each month in the space in front of SEA Junction, showcases a limited collection of new and used books on various aspects of Southeast Asia.

13 NOVEMBER 2016 at 10.3O AM-12.30 NOON: INTRODUCTION TO BUDDHIST ART IN SOUTHEAST ASIA

The lecture of art historian Cheda Tigsanchai will introduce the art of Buddhism in Southeast Asia and discuss the various styles, their iconography as well as their social and cultural functions.

20-27 NOVEMBER 2016: PHOTO EXHIBITION AND DOCUMENTARY SCREENING “THE CAMPERS: MICRO-COSMOPOLITANISM OF THE REFUGEE’S WORLD”

The photos by the anthropologists cum photograph ers, Samak Kosem and Kunnawut Boonreak and documentary film “Michael” by Kunnawut Boonreak show the economic and religious dimensions of life in the camps of Mae La, Nu Poe and Umpiem, by juxtaposing the statelessness of refugees inside and outside the camps with the transnationality of their networks.

22 NOVEMBER 2016 at 5-7 PM: CHINESE TOURISM IN SOUTHEAST ASIA: A BLESSING FOR ALL?

This 2nd Conversation in SEA Junction Series on Regional Development features Prof. Mingsarn Kaosa-ard, President of the Public Policy Studies Institute Foundation (PPSIF). Her talk will cover the new face of tourism in SEA dominated by tourists from China and the opportunities and risks that emerge.

29 NOVEMBER 2016 at 5-7 PM: LGBT RIGHTS UNDER SIEGE IN INDONESIA

Renown LBGT activist, Dédé Oetomo, reflects on the current “mass hysteria” and wave of attacks to LGBT people and communities in Indonesia. This public discussion is in collaboration with APCOM, a community network advocating on human rights and health for sexual diverse people in Asia Pacific, of which Dede Oetomo is Chair.
