Dear All,

After the intense and artistic August program, SEA Junction is slowing down in early September to allow for my taking home leave to Italy and for the new hires to get acquainted with the job. Activities will be limited to the daily functioning as a reading room and to the holding of the monthly Southeast Asia Mini Book Fair.

In the second half of September we will go back to our usual pace with two events, both part of ongoing series. The first, under “The Rice of Southeast Asia” series, explores the traditional Sundanese rice harvesting music of Tarawangsa. For the second, focus is on on movements of people and policies governing them in Southeast Asia as part of “ASEAN People in Flux”, a series consisting of seven interrelated events in collaboration with the Heinrich Boell Stiftung Southeast Asia. This fourth event in the series highlights the often-neglected topic of governance mechanisms countries of origin can put in place to protect migrants.

I look forward to welcoming you and hope you can help us in disseminating this September agenda to your network. All events are free, but donations to enable us to continue our activities are welcome!

Best regards,
Lia Sciortino Sumaryono
