SUMMARY:Dialogue Forum 1 (Year 2) “Green Finance and Policy Interventions: The Critical Challenges to Our Future Green Growth” (in Thai)
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with its partners and with the support of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (Thailand Office)\, Bangkok Tribune Online News Agency has come up with a monthly forum on issues of importance\, under the project\, “Dialogue Forum”. This is to facilitate and provide a space for discussions and exchanges of dialogues and views as well as information regarding critical social and environmental issues both in Thailand and the Mekong region\, thus not only bridging the gap and connecting the dots\, but also helping forge understanding among the public and the parties concerned\, encouraging them to make a decision about the issues better or even find a common ground and seek solutions together. \nSince Covid-19 hit the world’s community over a year ago\, the pandemic has periodically sparked new ideas about Green Recovery and the way forward for a more sustainable and resilient society against future shocks including pandemics. \nSustainable development and Green Economy or Green Growth have been brought back to the stage\, with fresh calls for more integration of natural based solutions. For instance\, the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) have recently released the latest report suggesting an intertwining of climate change and biodiversity loss and the needs for more synergies of solutions for the optimum benefits if the world wishes to achieve a more sustainable and resilient society. \nBut to materialize all these ideas\, it’s back to the fundamental thought\, which is about financing. Green finance now has become an emerging challenge as it will be a critical part to decide whether the conventional development path could be converted into the greener one. Or in other words\, whether we can “Build Back Greener” or “Build Back Better World” depends on how “green” the money is spent. \nIn addition\, other interventions – be they political\, economic\, of social – must go alongside\, some noted economists have remarked. So\, as the world and also Thailand itself are trying to turn the current development path into the greener one\, it’s challenging to see whether or not and how countries can adopt and implement green financing and other necessary interventions to make the greener development path happen and move forward to it. \nThe Dialogue Forum\, which opens a space for such critical discussion\, therefore\, would cordially like to invite you to look through the challenges lying ahead in the field of Green financing and interventions together at its first Dialogue Forum Year 2: Green Finance and Policy Interventions: The Critical Challenges to Our Future Green Growth on July 27\, 2021\, 1-3.30 pm via Zoom (Online)\, see the program below. \n**Please register and confirm your Zoom participation ahead of the event at: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0rde-trzgiHtCeyPsRAr0NJKRuUlt1LdHp.
