SUMMARY:Dialogue Forum 5: Surge in Plastic Waste During COVID-19 and the Roadmap Towards Sustainable Plastic Waste Management (in Thai)
DESCRIPTION: \nIn times when society has become widened with gaps and differences of views and opinions\, one issue could be escalated into a crisis if there are no platforms available for appropriate discussion among all concerned. \nThe media\, while informing and inspiring their audience\, could also take an educating and facilitating role to serve such the purpose\, acting as a bridge and helping connect the dots into one big picture. \nIn collaboration with its partners and with the support of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (Thailand Office)\, Bangkok Tribune News Agency has come up with a monthly forum on issues of importance\, under the project\, “Dialogue Forum”. \nThis is to facilitate and provide a space for discussions and exchanges of dialogues and views on issues of importance especially in regard to social and environmental issues both in Thailand and the Mekong region\, thus not only helping connect the dots as wished\, but also forging understanding among the public and the parties concerned\, encouraging them to find a common ground and seek solutions together. \nOne of the issues which have grasped public attention recently is the surge in plastic use and plastic waste during the lockdown and resteictions against COVID-19. \nThailand Environment Institute has revealed the fact in regard to the issue that plastic waste increased during the lockdown up to 15%\, or up from around 5\,500 tons a day to 6\,300 tons a day. More critically\, it found the relationship of this increased amount of plastic waste to the shift in people’s lifestyle following the pandemic as most of this waste is a result from food delivery. \nThailand has come up with the policy and road map to address the issue of plastic waste over the past few years\, but whether these policy and roadmap can keep up with the shift of consumption behaviors that produce more of plastics is  still a question as much as a new challenge. \nThe Dialogue Forum therefore would cordially like to invite you to explore the sustainable path for the country’s plastic waste management amid the increasing challenge during the pandemic and beyond in its Dialogue Forum 5: Surge in Plastic Waste during COVID-19 and the Roadmap towards sustainable plastic waste management at SEA-Junction 408\, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre\, on August 26\, 2020 (10.00 am-12.30 pm) \nContact: southeastasiajunction@gmail.com \nBangkok Tribune coordinator: Piya Wong  @089 920 8027/ Bangkok Tribune News FB Messenger \n**In accordance with the COVID-19 regulation\, please confirm your participation ahead of the event (limited seats available). \n***You can also watch the event live at FB Live: Bangkok Tribune News FB Page \nObjectives \n\nTo develop and introduce a new body of knowledge and innovation in regard to an independent\, in-depth media to the  public (Indie & In-depth)\nTo empower public members to be able to keep up with any developments as well as repercussions in the society\, as well as the role of the media in helping shape the society (Empowering)\nTo promote participation in development of such the innovative and independent media so that it can remain opened and accessible to all (Open & Accessible)\n\n\nPartners \n\nThai Society of Environmental Journalists\nProject SEVANA South-East Asia\nSEA-Junction\nBangkok Tribune News Agency\n\nSupported by: Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (Thailand Office) \nProgramme \nDialogue Forum 5 (in Thai) \nSurge in Plastic Waste during COVID-19 \nand the Roadmap towards sustainable plastic waste management \n  \nVenue: SEA-Junction\, 4th Floor\, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre \nTime: August 26\, 10.00 am-12.30 pm \n\n\n\n10.00 am\nRegistration\n\n\n10.25 am\nBrief introduction of the forum and the topic of the forum\n\n\n10.30 am\nOverview: The state of plastic waste and the  roadmap for plastic waste management before COVID-19\nDr.Wijarn Simachaya\, President of Thailand Environment Institute\,\nformerly Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment\n\n\n10.40 am \nForum discussion: Surge in Plastic Waste during COVID-19 and the Roadmap towards sustainable plastic waste management \nSpeakers: \nDr.Wijarn Simachaya\, President of Thailand Environment Institute\, formerly Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment \nMs.Wanich Sawayo\, Director of Waste Minimization Subdivision\, The Pollution Control Department \nDr. Sujitra   Vassanadumrongdee\, Manager\, Chula Zero Waste\, and Senior Researcher\, the Environmental Research Institute\, Chulalongkorn University \nPichmol Rugrod\, Plastic Project Leader\, Greenpeace Thailand \nDr. Petch Manopawitr\, Co-Founder ReReef\, former Deputy Director\, IUCN SE Asia Group (/moderator)\n\n\n11.40 am\nQ&A session\n\n\n12.30 pm\nWrap-up and closing of the forum\n\n\n\nShare on FacebookTweetFollow usSave
