SUMMARY:Film Screening “Broken Dreams: Stories from the Myanmar Coup”
DESCRIPTION:One country under dictatorship\, nine stories\, nine voices calling for justice\, millions of “Broken Dreams”. \nBroken Dreams is a feature-length omnibus film made up of 9 short films that portray the impact of the 2021 military coup in Myanmar. The film covers a wide range of experiences\, including the loss of loved ones\, the enduring scars of traumatic events\, the generational repercussions of the dictator’s atrocities\, the struggles of ethnic refugees\, and the suppression of freedom of expression. Each story is told from a unique perspective\, and together they provide a powerful and moving portrait of the ongoing crisis in Myanmar. \nPresented by the Ninefold Mosaic\, the film is a follow-up to the critically acclaimed Myanmar Diaries\, which won several awards at international film festivals. Broken Dreams builds on the success of its predecessor\, offering a more in-depth look at the human cost of the coup. The film is also notable for the fact that most of the filmmakers\, actors\, and crew are in exile to avoid junta’s persecution for their participation in Myanmar’s Spring Revolution. \nAfter its premiere screening at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand and subsequent editing\, the film is scheduled for a screening at SEA Junction on 11 November 2023\, from 4:30 to 7:00 pm. The film has a duration of approximately 2 hours and is in Burmese with English subtitles. One of the film directors will join virtually to introduce the film and participate in a Q&A session before and after the screening. Admission to the film screening is free\, but we gladly accept donations to support charities aiding refugees from Myanmar. \n \n  \nFor more information\, please email: info@seajunction.org or phone/wa: +66970024140 \nOrganizer: \nSEA Junction \nSEA Junction\, established under the Thai non-profit organization Foundation for Southeast Asia Studies (ForSEA)\, aims to foster understanding and appreciation of Southeast Asia in all its socio-cultural dimensions\, from arts and lifestyles to economy and development.
