SUMMARY:Launch of the Report “CSO Sustainability Index in Thailand”
DESCRIPTION:In Thailand\, like also in other countries in the region\, the role of CSOs has been crucial in the cycle of addressing various social concerns\, ranging from human rights violation to ensuring the well-being of the vulnerable sectors in the society. However\, due to current shrinking civic space and rising tension of unfavorable laws\, the challenges in securing funds amongst CSOs to sustain their activities in the long-run have become much more visible.  Hence\, it is vital to come up with the solutions to guarantee CSOs’ sustainability.  \nOn 3 December at 6 PM\, the report CSO Sustainability Index Report will be launched at SEA Junction. The discussion of the report will examine the supportiveness of the legal\, social and funding landscapes in the realm of CSOs’ sustainability in Thailand. At our venue\, community leaders\, CSO experts\, and development partners will gather to discuss challenges and solutions. The discussants include: \nAsmah Tanyongdaoh\, Southern Working Group for Monitoring International Mechanism \nPhil Robertson\, Human Rights Watch \nNittaya Muangklang\, Isaan Land Reform Network \nDirek Hamnakorn\, Green World Network\, Thepa \nSupecha Baotip\, Tamtang \nSugarnta Soopaita\, Migrant Worker Federation \nEmilie Pradichit\, Manushya Foundation \nThis report launch is closely related to the series of events and publications launched last February by SEA Junction with support by the Open Society Foundations (OSF)\, which focuses on the funding challenges experienced by civil society in the region\,  Entitled  “Wielding the funding strings of civil society in Southeast Asia” the series was born out of an article with the same title recently written by SEA Junction’s director\, Rosalia Sciortino\, for New Mandala (https://www.newmandala.org/weilding-purse-strings/).  \n  \nAbout the project \nThe CSOSI Sustainability Index project is funded by USAID\, and implemented by FHI360 in partnership with ICNL and it assesses the sustainability of CSO sectors in countries around the world. Manushya Foundation is the implementation partner for the 2018 CSOSI report of Thailand.
