SUMMARY:SEAREG Pre-Dissertation Fellowship
DESCRIPTION:We are now accepting applications for the 2020 SEAREG Pre-Dissertation Fellowships (link will open a Qualtrics application form; please be sure to have all required documents ready for upload prior to beginning the online application). \nDownload a copy of the Fellowship information form>> \nThe Fellowship consists of an award of up to $5\,000\, made possible by a generous grant from the Henry Luce Foundation. This will assist social science Ph.D. students engaged in exploratory research who must travel to Southeast Asia in order to obtain the advanced contextual knowledge needed for a high-quality dissertation proposal and a competitive application for external funding. \nPreference will be given to students who have not yet advanced to candidacy and are enrolled in the fields of political science\, economics\, and sociology. \nGraduate students in good academic standing who have completed their first or second year of a social science  Ph.D. program (including the fields of public policy\, history\, and anthropology) in the U.S. or Canada\, regardless of personal nationality or citizenship\, are eligible to apply for this fellowship. \nPhD candidates are also eligible to apply\, though preference will be given to students who have not yet defended (or only recently defended) a dissertation prospectus. \nApplications are due March 16\, 2020\, and decisions will be announced by March 31. \nApplication Requirements \n200-250 word (1 page) summary of research idea \n100-150 word (1/2 page) description of research site and country context \nEvidence of language ability – submit one of the following: \nCopy of university transcript \nLetter from language instructor verifying proficiency level \nNative proficiency (copy of secondary school or undergraduate diploma) \nName\, position of local in-country contact \nLetter of endorsement from in-country contact* \nLetter of endorsement from faculty* at university where student is enrolled \nCopy of transcript (may be unofficial) verifying good academic standing \nEstimated budget of expenses for the research project \n*Letters of endorsement may be submitted 1) by the student in the Qualtrics application; 2) online via the submission forms below; or 3) emailed to Renate Kwon (r.kwon@duke.edu) by their authors. \nPlease note\, funds from this fellowship are not intended to support either introductory language courses or language courses offered outside of the region of Southeast Asia; successful applicants will have already made a commitment to the region by acquiring basic linguistic competency. \nLetters of Recommendation \nPlease use the appropriate form\, below\, to submit a letter of recommendation for an applicant for the SEAREG 2020 Pre-dissertation Fellowship. \n  \nSource: https://seareg.org/opportunities/pre-dissertation-fellowship/?fbclid=IwAR0v3QrzYmAgiF-YmLC15ffn2CtPIfeKfWkc50jsipBC-Bh9lTLwmvI65LQ \nShare on FacebookTweetFollow usSave
