SUMMARY:SEI Asia: Internship on Climate Change\, Gender and Migration
DESCRIPTION:SEI Asia\, based in Bangkok\, has a diverse team of multinational experts that integrates scientific research with participatory approaches to co-develop and share knowledge\, build partnerships\, and influence policy for resilient development. It focuses on gender and social equity\, climate adaptation\, disaster risk reduction\, water insecurity and integrated water resources management\, transitional agriculture\, renewable energy and urbanization. \nSEI Asia is an affiliate of Chulalongkorn University (CU)\, Thailand. SEI and CU have inked a long-term agreement to foster innovative scientific research combined with effective policy engagement on development and environmental challenges in Asia. \nThe role \nEnvironmental change and stresses are felt by all\, but they do not affect all people equally. Social and gender inequalities shape people’s vulnerabilities to environmental shocks and stresses\, weakening their capacities to realize their well-being and security. Social inequality is characterized by multiple and intersecting social identities of gender\, race\, ethnicity\, sexuality\, age\, ability and class that translate into privilege for some\, but disadvantage and marginalization for others. These are shaped by political\, economic and cultural dynamics of power and affect the capacities of people to achieve sustainable development and well-being. \nIn this context\, the SEI Asia Cluster on Gender\, Environment and Development (GED) works towards achieving transformative and socially inclusive sustainable development through rigorous research that informs key environment and development policy agendas. A key focus area is on the topics of environmental change\, human mobility and migration. Our team applies an intersectional lens on gender equality\, social equity and poverty and uses participatory methodologies that strive towards social and environmental justice. \nWho you are \nWe are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive person with a passion for research and policy engagement in the fields of migration\, gender and social inclusion for the environment and development. \nFormal qualifications and knowledge \n\nMaster’s degree (or near completion) in international development\, migration studies\, political sciences or associated disciplines\nPrevious knowledge on climate change\, migration and displacement issues\nFluent in English with excellent writing and presentation skills.\n\nDesirable \n\nFamiliar with critical social science frameworks (e.g. political ecology\, feminist political ecology)\nFamiliar with international processes on climate change\, migration and displacement\nPrior employment or internship experience in a relevant professional setting\nPrior research work experience in Asia\nCandidates based in Bangkok are preferred\, but due to continued Covid-19 travel disruptions\, we are open to the right candidate working remotely.\n\nPersonal skills required for the position \n\nEnthusiastic and passionate about research in policy work\nWorks well both in teams and independently\nCommitment to continuous learning.\n\nAdditional information \n\nSEI Asia provides a stipend allowance of THB 15 000 per month.\nThe cost of the initial visa application and relocation shall be covered by the intern.\n\nHow to apply \nSEI Asia is an equal opportunity employer and we consider all applicants on the basis of qualifications and competencies regardless but not limited to race\, national origin\, religious beliefs\, gender\, gender identity\, sexual orientation\, age\, disability and marital status.
