DESCRIPTION:SEI is recruiting an experienced and motivated Senior Research Fellow to the Gender\, Environment & Development cluster at SEI Asia. \nLocation: Bangkok\, Thailand\nContract: fixed two-year term\, with the possibility of extension\nDeadline: applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis\, but apply latest by 14 June 2020 \nJoin our globally top-ranked environment think tank and international non-profit research institute and help create a sustainable future for all. SEI Asia is a dynamic\, expanding workplace that employs around 40 people from more than 15 different nationalities\, in an activity-based office in central Bangkok. \nMain responsibilities \n\nProvide intellectual leadership on GED/GESEP plans (Gender\, Environment & Development team\, in Asia\, and Gender Equality\, Social Equity and Poverty reduction Initiative globally)\, ensure GED cluster work is in line with SEI and GED strategy and overall global SEI strategy\, and stimulate a content-related dialogue within the institute and stakeholders.\nContribute to the formulation\, implementation and ongoing monitoring\, evaluation and learning of the GED Cluster strategic plan.\nLead large programmatic research efforts and ensure that research results are brought forward in decision-making contexts of high relevance to SEI’s mandate.\nLine manage a team of researchers\, providing regular guidance and feedback\, monitoring the quality of the research process\, and reviewing publications and other outputs to ensure they meet the project objectives and SEI quality standards.\nPlan\, develop and implement research projects\, consistent with SEI’s mission and the GED/GESEP plans (Gender\, Environment & Development team\, in Asia\, and Gender Equality\, Social Equity and Poverty reduction Initiative globally)\, with a clear formulation of objectives\, target audiences\, deliverables\, and MEL procedures in accordance with the SEI Project Manual.\nIdentify new funding opportunities\, secure long-term research funding support for multiple colleagues and build relationships with key funders.\nMentor early-career research staff\, supporting their professional and career development and helping them build their research\, writing and communications capacity.\nEnsure a strong portfolio of publications including peer-reviewed academic journals every year. \n\nWho you are \nWe are looking for person who is an outstanding leader in your field. A dynamic\, passionate and curious individual who is willing to challenge the status quo and push boundaries and is motivated by bringing about change in your field to enable its growth. A team player\, an innovative thinker\, a solutions-oriented doer\, and someone who enjoys working for a prosperous and just future for all. \nRequired qualifications and experience \n\nRecognized expert in their field\, holding the academic qualification of Associate Professor or higher or\, comparable research and practical experience with at least 15 years’ experience in research project development and management\, and with at least 10 years in managing early-career staff. A Ph.D. in gender studies\, development studies\, sociology of sustainability studies\, political science\, human geography\, anthropology or other related fields.\nStrong grounding in social science research\, with an outstanding record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and experience with multiple methodologies. Expertise and published work should include interactions and exposure to new thinking and innovations within the general applied field of gender\, environment\, poverty\, equity and sustainable development\, with specialization in for example (but not limited to) feminist science studies (STS)\, feminist/political ecology\, environmental justice\, post/decolonial studies\, deliberative democracy and social justice\, and equity in sustainability transitions.\nExperience in research in development contexts with a focus on the multi-dimensional drivers of poverty\nIn-depth understanding of sustainable development needs and challenges in the Asia-Pacific Region.\nA proven record of securing external funding for research programmes\, and a strong publications record.\nProven ability to lead a strong\, visionary and lasting research portfolio involving a team of several researchers.\nProven success in work relations with a wide range of partners\, including research institutes\, governments\, and other development actors through partnerships and projects.\nFluency in spoken and written English.\nDemonstrated record of interdisciplinary collaboration\, partnership and team building and the desire to work in a collaborative environment.\n\nIdeally\, the candidate would also bring: \n\nExperience in translating and communicating scientific information to a range of different audiences.\nInterest in policy engagement and capacity building.\nExperience in a research/non-profit organization.\nExperience working in an international environment.\nKnowledge of one or more Asian languages.\n\nHow to apply \nWe are reviewing applications on an ongoing basis so please submit your application as soon as possible\, however no later than 14 June 2020. Applications should be written in English. \nPlease note that we only accept applications submitted online.
