SUMMARY:Stand Up for Human Rights in Thailand Join the Human Rights Defenders School 2019 Now
DESCRIPTION:BANGKOK (19 April 2019) _ Send your application now to the UN Human Rights Office in Bangkok to attend our Human Rights Defenders School Programme\, ten days of intensive training designed to enhance the capacity of mid-level human rights professionals in the country. \nSince 2014\, the Human Rights Defenders School has trained over 80 Thai human rights defenders\, most of them women\, and the number is growing. \nThe programme is staged over two five-day periods at Mahidol University Salaya Campus in Nakorn Prathom province. Applicants are required to attend both training sessions. \nThe first one\, from 10 to 14 June 2019\, will include sessions on international human rights standards\, human rights documentation and interviewing skills\, and physical and digital security training. \nThe second five-day training\, from 7 to 11 October 2019\, will cover international human rights treaties\, UN human rights mechanisms\, advocacy with the media\, and cooperation with UN human rights mechanisms\, state institutions and civil society organisations. \nApplicants should be human rights defenders working on civil and political rights; economic\, social and cultural rights; children’s rights; labour rights; refugee and migrant rights; community human rights defenders; land rights activists; environmental human rights defenders; LGBTI rights\, indigenous rights or others. \nWomen human rights defenders and human rights defenders operating in the provinces are encouraged to apply. \nThe UN Human Rights Office will cover travel\, accommodation and a subsistence allowance for the successful candidates. \nThe deadline is 6 May 2019\, and successful applicants will be notified by 9 May 2019. \nPlease send completed applications to ohchr.bangkok@un.org and wenika.dittikan@un.org.
