SUMMARY:Victim/Survivor Justice: Confronting Sex Trafficking Cases from Thailand to Europe and the United States
DESCRIPTION:From 2016-2021\, an international sex trafficking scheme was exposed trafficking hundreds of Thai women across Europe and the US. In 2021\, 36 defendants in the US were sentenced for engaging in crimes related to human trafficking. The Thai Community Development Center was the community-based organization working with the US Prosecution and Investigation team and has modeled survivor-centered approaches to social services and access to justice for nearly three decades. Panida Rzonca and Tonya Price will detail lessons learned from the case. The session will include an interactive discussion on how victim service providers as well as law enforcement can work together in a victim-centric and trauma-informed space to ensure justice. \nLocation; Zoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82006212704 and FB live @IPSRMahidolUniversity \nTonya Price is an United States HSI Supervisory Special Agent over the human trafficking and child exploitation group\, currently representing HSI in Congress.  Tonya is a subject matter expert in human trafficking\, having investigated over 70 trafficking investigations.  She is the lead officer on the Bangkok case.  She is also a Peer Support Member\, Recruiter\, and worked as a certified agent for 10 years. \nPanida Rzonca\, JD\, is Directing Attorney at the Thai Community Development Center where she manages the delivery of comprehensive social and legal services including trauma-informed\, culturally\, and linguistically appropriate victim’s rights representation and legal services including affirmative immigration relief\, labor claims\, victims’ rights advocacy\, restitution\, victim representation in a criminal setting\, civil legal assistance\, and family reunification. Panida currently serves as a Commissioner on the California Access to Justice Commission. \nModerator: Pattraporn Chuenglertsiri is a lecturer at Institute for Population and Social Research\, Mahidol University (IPSR). She has received her master’s degree (MSc) in Social Studies of Gender at Lund University\, Sweden and her doctoral degree (Ph.D) in Migration.
