SUMMARY:Workshop on Painting Thai Floral Watercolor Cards
DESCRIPTION:Thailand’s impressive biodiversity greatly contributes to its attractiveness. The wet\, tropical climate enables the growth of a vast array of native flora\, still largely undocumented. \nIn this workshop with artist Kwanpoom Vilaiwan\, participants will learn about Thai flowers\, by painting them with watercolors on large greeting cards. They will be guided in a step by step process\, first drawing selected Thai flowers and then coloring them. As the realist flowers’ patterns are very detailed\, each participant will choose and focus on a specific flower. While participants work on their cards\, Kwanpoon will share his knowledge of the various flowers and explain their meaning in Thai culture and society and when relevant about their use in Buddhist rituals and their representation in temples’ murals. \nKwanpoom has learned art design with masters Pairoj Teeraprapa\, M.L. Chiratorn Chirapravati and Prof. Prateep Sawangsuk at Siam Sarm Tri Schools and has experience in publication\, design work\, and fine art painting. He founded Artizaan Press and has edited more than 10 books\, and 100 pieces of publication including\, academic journals\, chart books\, scrapbooks and greeting cards from the work of famous Thai artists. His work includes flower painting in many ways\, among others the collection inspired by Phutai ethnic textile motifs\, a series of reproduction of flora painting in the Ayutthaya era\, and different types of realist water color flower painting. Kwanphum uses very tiny brushes for flower paintings which allows for more refined details. \nThe cost for participating in the workshop is TBH 600 including materials (brush\, water colors and greeting card) and at the end\, participants will be able to bring home their finished watercolor card. Please note that if participants want to do more than one card additional costs will be reckoned.
