DESCRIPTION:ASEASUK is offering bursaries to members to support research and impact activities in Southeast Asian Studies. The awards are available for travel and related expenses for activities taking place between 1 July 2017 to 31 July 2018.\nPermissible activities include: \n\nfieldwork in SE Asia or key sites in the diaspora;\nresearch visits to important regional archives\, museums\, collections\, exhibitions or performances (concerning but not necessarily located in SE Asia);\na visit for collaborative writing or artistic practice with an academic or practitioner colleague from another institution in SE Asia;\ndelivery of a paper at a regional academic conference;\ndelivery of a paper to an academic or practitioner audience based on research previously conducted on/in the region.\n\nAwards available: \n\nThree Postgraduate Bursaries (PhD\, MPhil or MRes students)\, up to £1000 each\nOne Early Career Award\, up to £1500\nOne Senior Award\, up to £2500\n\nApplication deadline: 30 April 2017. SUMMARY:ASEAN CSR Fellowship 2018
DESCRIPTION:The ASEAN CSR Fellowship seeks to build up the next generation of ambassadors for responsible business in Southeast Asia\, harnessing the potential of the private sector in addressing key regional issues in anti-corruption\, environmental degradation and human rights. The Fellowship is part of ACN’s ongoing efforts to help practitioners re-define CSR\, away from its misconception that it is just corporate philanthropy and volunteerism\, towards the business responsibility to look beyond their bottom line and consider the social and environmental implications of their activities. The attention is shifted from how businesses spend money (charity) to how the money is made. \nA small team of high-potential individuals will be selected from business\, government and civil society\, to be equipped with in-depth theoretical and practical concepts in responsible business. The year-long journey will take Fellows to 3 countries across ASEAN\, spending 5 days each in Singapore/Malaysia\, Myanmar and Vietnam. Covering the full spectrum of ASEAN member states with varying levels of economic development\, the Fellowship starts at the heart of ASEAN’s business activity in Singapore/Malaysia\, before heading to the emerging economy of Myanmar and the manufacturing hub of Vietnam. Each week spent in the different countries will feature a series of study tours to meet top business leaders\, government representatives\, academics and civil society practitioners. Modules will also feature deep-dive topics\, delving into difficult issues such as the rights of migrant workers\, labor standards in the garment industry and responsible investment. SUMMARY:2017 Wenzao International Conference on Southeast Asian Studies: Borders\, Boundaries and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:Abstract submission deadline: 15 May 2017 \nModern borders define and divide nations\, cultures and traditions. Both modern research and history evidence people and goods have always transcended boundaries. Ideas and commodities have never been exclusive to a single region or nation\, but have generally been objects of exchange\, competition\, and rivalry. Proposed research encourages analysis of fixed political boundaries and encourages scholars to reconsider borders as works in progress and Asia as a region in motion. \nConsider a wide range of ideas regarding the overall theme\, “Beyond Borders and Boundaries” and how it enhances our understanding of Southeast-Asia and how the region has shaped the past and is currently reshaping the world. In order to have multiple perspectives on the theme\, this conference has been divided into research of three main topics: (1) Southeast Asian languages (2) Southeast-Asian governments and societies (3) Southeast-Asian enterprises and properties. \n\nINSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMISSION\nSubmissions should be made and presented in English\, as it is the working language of the conference. We welcome papers and panel proposals as well. Paper proposals should be submitted in Word format and contain the title\, name and author(s)’ affiliation\, contact information (address\, telephone\, and email) and an abstract of no more than 500 words.
