Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis to qualified candidates under the auspices of the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Program\, subject to the availability of funding. \nDeadline: June 1\, 2017\nThe Fulbright Program was established in 1946 by the U.S. Congress as a means “to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.” For more than sixty years the Fulbright Program has provided opportunities for foreign nationals to study\, teach\, and pursue research in the U.S.\nTo be eligible\, applicants must: \n\nHave a strong academic background and a record of excellence in previous studies;\nHave completed a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university for those applying to study in the U.S. for a Master’s degree program\, or have a Master’s degree from a recognized college or university for those applying to study in the U.S. for a Doctoral program;\nBe proficient in English (a minimum score of 570 on TOEFL or TOEFL ITP\, or 230 on computer-based TOEFL\, or 88 on internet based TOEFL\, or 7.0 on IELTS);\nDemonstrate the ability to adapt readily to a foreign environment;\nBe in good health and able to undergo a rigorous study program; and\nNot have extensive experience living or studying in the United States.\n\nFulbright Student Fellowship grants provide round-trip transportation to the United States\, as well as tuition fees\, and living expenses for full-time graduate study. DESCRIPTION:OVERVIEW \nProfessional Development Grants (PDGs) provide support for mid-career conservationists to pursue short-term\, non-degree training to upgrade their knowledge and skills. These trainings can include short courses\, certificate trainings\, or conferences among other training opportunities. \nPDGs support training-related costs\, including registration fees and tuition\, meals and accommodations\, books and materials\, international travel\, visa fees\, and local transportation. DESCRIPTION:About \nRecent development which occurred during the last two decades in the Asia Pacific region\, there were some meticulous challenges towards the existing progressive peace where it is achievable only by having consistent assessment and efforts to prevent conflict. Culture of Peace as conceptually consists of “Values\, attitudes and behaviors that reject violence and prevent conflict by tackling their root causes to solve problems through dialogue and negotiation among individuals\, groups and nations” must be endorsed in everyday to achieve peace. SUMMARY:A Digital Revolution for Southeast Asian Women and Girls?
DESCRIPTION:Across the world\, digital products and services are transforming work and lifestyles. Also in Southeast Asia\, there is much talk of a digital society\, in which individuals can access and interact with public and private services and information channels via digital technologies. These developments are expected to increase efficiencies\, enrich lives and foster progress. \nAt the same time however\, awareness is rising that digital spread is not necessarily inclusive and may reinforce pre-existing divides\, as not all groups and countries have the same degree of technological infrastructures and innovation prowess. Concerns are also rife about growing intrusions on privacy and safety risks. These challenges affect women and girls disproportionately since they have more limited access to digital media and ICT communities; are often discouraged from engaging with technologies; and when they do are at risk of becoming the target of online harassment. There is a need to foster an enabling and secure environment if they are to participate actively in the digital world and have the appropriate skills and protection to be able to employ digital media and other tools for their empowerment and well-being. \nThe panel discussion on 17 October at 6PM will focus on the rights of women and girls to enjoy the benefits of technology while being protected from its dangers. Focus is on digital literacy for women and girls as an instrument to address gender bias in access and use of technologies\, while also taking into account the longstanding culture\, traditions\, and policies that create a barrier to change. Taking the lead from a recent Web Foundation report[1]\, the panel asks whether access to the internet and digital literacy can support Southeast Asian women and girls not only to become “consumers” of digital services and media\, but most importantly to empower them “to have a voice in spaces where this was previously denied\, challenge gender norms\, use information\, participate in political and associational networks\, and increase their economic independence”. \nThe composition of the panel that will address these and other related issues in selected countries of Southeast Asia is as follows: \n\nKamolrat Intaratat\, Director & Founder: The Research Center of Communication and  Development Knowledge Management (CCDKM) (CCDKM.org) Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University and Chair of Communication Arts for ASEAN International Program (Master Degree Program) (Southeast Asia/Thailand)\nDiana Mendoza\, Co-founder and Editor of Women Writing Women (Philippines).\nDhyta Caturani\, feminist and digital expert\, Founder PurpleCode Collective (Indonesia)\n\nThis panel is the first of a series of events focusing on various dimensions of women leadership in Southeast Asia in collaboration with Partners Asia (see below).
