SUMMARY:Exhibition “Inside Out; Bodymaps of Bangkok Refugees”
DESCRIPTION:On 19-31 March\, SEA Junction in collaboration with TIFA Foundation will hold the exhibition “Inside Out; Bodimaps of Bangkok Refugees” on the curve wall of the 4th floor of the Bangkok Art and Culture Center (BACC) exposing paintings done by urban refugees living in Bangkok. The so-called “bodymap” paintings are self-representations of each painter. They were made starting with the drawing of a real-life outline of the artist’s body. Then memories\, and hopes were painted onto the paper and the bodymap have become a life-sized documentation of the refugees in between past and future. \nThe paintings were produced during therapeutic art classes coordinated by artist Gerda Liebmann and conducted by artists and volunteers as a way to allow the refugees to share their stories and heal their emotions. Many of them are traumatized and depressed. They have experienced persecution and have been forced far away from home. Now they have to survive in the shadows of the bustling city of Bangkok\, waiting for years in vulnerable and not always safe conditions with the hope of being relocated to a third country. Art helps them express their feelings and affirm their presence. As the project’s coordinator puts it “Art is a therapeutic way to express oneself inside out”. \nThe artists represented are from Pakistan\, Vietnam and Eritrea. The youngest is seventeen years of age and the oldest thirty-five years old. Besides the painted bodymaps\, also brief summaries of their stories will be hanged. \nTo conclude and celebrate the exhibition on 30 March at 5 PM a panel discussion will be held that focuses attention on mental health among refugees in Thailand (both urban and camp refugees) – an important\, yet often neglected topic. The panel will discuss issues as well as approaches\, especially creative approaches\, that are used to strengthen the resilience of refugees and other marginalized groups in coping with trauma and insecurity. Topics and confirmed panel members are as follows: \nCreating a safe space with creative processes\nSangusanee (Cherry) Nawamarat\nArt therapist\, Thailand \nArt as Therapy for Refugees\nGerda Liebmann\nArtist and facilitator of art classes for adult refugees\, Inside Out project coordinator \nMental health issues among refugees: experiences and approaches\nCherry Soe Myn\nSupervisor and trainer of our Common Elements Treatment Approach (CETA) counseling\, Myanmar  \nThe exhibition and the panel sign the continuation of the series “Displaced and Uprooted in Southeast Asia” in collaboration with TIFA Foundation. The series aims to give visibility to the fate of displaced persons\, asylum seekers and refugees in the region and stimulate public discussion on inclusive policy and intervention responses to forced movements of people. \nSpeakers’ Short Bios  \nSangusanee ( Cherry ) Nawamarat \nCherry studied fine art printmaking at Loughborough University of Art and Design. Completed post graduated Foundation Certificate in Art Psychotherapy for Goldsmiths College\, University of London\, and Certificate in the Therapeutic and Educational Application of the Arts at Institute of Art in Therapy and Education\, UK. She graduated from the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy program in Thailand\, (IPATT) with a Post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Art Therapy. Her work includes creative art programs for children and adult\, clinical art therapy for mental health treatments\, terminally ill children\, palliative care\, and dementia patients.  She is a pioneer of art therapy in Bangkok and founding member of Art Therapists Association (Thailand) \nGerda Liebmann  \nGerda was born in Switzerland where she studied art at the Kunstgewerbeschule St.Gallen. After moving to the United States she worked as a graphic designer before studying Christian Ministry at Berean Global University and getting ordained as a Reverend. SUMMARY:Special Southeast Asia Mini Book Fair with Offer of Refugee Art
DESCRIPTION:GET A BOOK\, SUPPORT SEA JUNCTION! \nOnce a month\, SEA Junction holds a mini book fair focusing on Southeast Asia. Three kinds of books are displayed: \n\nNew books given in consignment from recognized publishers with an interest in the countries of Southeast Asia including Silkworm Books from Thailand\, ISEAS from Singapore and Yayasan Pustaka Obor from Indonesia.\nNew and used books that are double to those of SEA Junction’s Library. They include books in Thai\, English and Indonesian on various issues related to Southeast Asia and the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS)\nFew literature and development-related works from outside the region that have been donated to SEA Junction for the purpose of the fair.\n\nAll donations for the books contribute to SEA Junction’s functioning and activities. \nThis month the fair occurs during the exhibition “Inside Out; Bodimaps of Bangkok Refugees” organized by SEA Junction in collaboration with TIFA Foundation on 19-31 March on the curve wall of the 4th floor of the Bangkok Art and Culture Center (BACC) exposing bodymap paintings done by urban refugees living in Bangkok. SUMMARY:Call for proposals – PISCCA 2019
DESCRIPTION:Registration: 24 March 2019 \nInnovative Projects for Civil Society and Coalition of Actors The Embassy of France in Myanmar launches a call for proposals through its PISCCA fund. The 2019 – 2020 PISCCA aims at supporting Myanmar civil society organizations (CSOs)\, in order to enhance their role in the ongoing process of democratic transition in the country. Therefore\, the call is open for innovative and multi-actors based proposals in the following areas: \n\nPromoting a community-based\, sustainable and inclusive development: fighting against inequalities and exclusion. A preference will be given to initiatives piloting intercommunal dialogue\, social cohesion\, fight against hate speech\, peace efforts\, fight against extreme poverty\, access to basic services (health\, including reproductive and sexual health\, education\, water\, sanitation\, waste\, energy\,…).\nFighting against discrimination\, violence and human rights abuses. A particular focus will be given to projects addressing gender equality\, gender-based violence\, and all forms of discrimination against minority groups and/or usually ignored or marginalized (persons with disabilities\, persons living with HIV/AIDS\, LGBTI community).\nPromoting an open and participatory society. Attention will be given to cultural\, innovation and communication stakeholders with programs aiming at improving access to culture\, promoting creativity\, including through digital technologies and virtual reality\, especially for youth. Initiatives linked to preservation and promotion of cultural heritage can also be supported.\n\nFor all of these broad areas\, a particular attention will be given to the inclusiveness of the proposed interventions. All proposals should include a reference to gender and an analysis of how gender concerns will be taken into account in the proposed intervention. When relevant\, all proposals should address the needs of specific vulnerable or marginalized groups. The Embassy of France also encourages projects having the potential to forge partnerships with other stakeholders which could be other civil society organisations or networks\, the private sector\, the local public authorities and / or other donors. Grants will range from 20 000 to 40 000 euros. The contribution from France should not exceed 70 % of the overall budget of the proposal. How to proceed?\nInterested organisations should send a 2 to 3 pages concept note outlining: \n\nThe organisation’s name\, main purpose and field(s) of work;\nA description of the problem(s) the organization wishes to address;\nAn initial analysis about the strategy\, approach and options that would guide the project;\nInformation on stakeholders and potential partners for the proposed intervention (other CSOs\, networks\, private sector\, INGOs\, public authorities\, other donors…); and\nA preliminary estimate of the total budget.\n\nThe deadline for submitting concept notes is 24 March 2019. The concept notes should be sent to:\nMrs Laetitia Hoarau (laetitia.hoarau@diplomatie.gouv.fr); and\nMr Philippe Devaud (philippe1.devaud@diplomatie.gouv.fr).\nThe Concept notes will be reviewed by the Embassy from 25 March to 7 April 2019 and the selection\ncommittee will be held during the second week of April 2019.
