DESCRIPTION:The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce the opportunity to compete for 2018-2019 Fulbright Student Fellowships for graduate study in the United States leading to a Master’s or Doctoral degree. Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis to qualified candidates under the auspices of the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Program\, subject to the availability of funding. \nDeadline: June 1\, 2017\nThe Fulbright Program was established in 1946 by the U.S. Congress as a means “to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.” For more than sixty years the Fulbright Program has provided opportunities for foreign nationals to study\, teach\, and pursue research in the U.S.\nTo be eligible\, applicants must: \n\nHave a strong academic background and a record of excellence in previous studies;\nHave completed a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university for those applying to study in the U.S. for a Master’s degree program\, or have a Master’s degree from a recognized college or university for those applying to study in the U.S. for a Doctoral program;\nBe proficient in English (a minimum score of 570 on TOEFL or TOEFL ITP\, or 230 on computer-based TOEFL\, or 88 on internet based TOEFL\, or 7.0 on IELTS);\nDemonstrate the ability to adapt readily to a foreign environment;\nBe in good health and able to undergo a rigorous study program; and\nNot have extensive experience living or studying in the United States.\n\nFulbright Student Fellowship grants provide round-trip transportation to the United States\, as well as tuition fees\, and living expenses for full-time graduate study. DESCRIPTION:The call for proposals will be open from 2 May to 17 July 2019. \nThe essential content for the IUCN World Conservation Congress is provided by quality proposals\, submitted on a competitive basis. \nIf your proposal is selected\, in your session\, you will have an opportunity to engage a targeted and influential audience of leaders and decision makers from government\, civil society\, business\, and academia as well as conservation and sustainable development professionals from around the world. Hosting a session is not only an opportunity to showcase your organisation and its activities\, but also a chance for you to receive feedback from key stakeholders\, generate new partnerships and inform action on a global scale. \nThere are a number of different types of sessions you can consider hosting\, from formal thematic stream sessions\, focussed on developing ideas from the thematic plenaries\, to  training and capacity building sessions\, “a Campus”\, or a “Speaker Pitch” during which you can showcase your conservation work and your organisation’s achievements\, to a broad audience. \nThe session types listed below are open for proposals. Descriptions of each session type can be found on the dedicated page. \n\nThematic Stream Sessions\nSpeaker Pitches\nCampus Sessions\n\nTo be selected for inclusion in the final Congress programme\, event proposals must meet a series of criteria. \nFor example\, in addition to the overall merit of the proposal\, session proposals will be evaluated based on their alignment with the draft IUCN Programme 2021-2024\, their gender responsiveness\, their degree of youth engagement\, their intended engagement with the audience\, and other factors.Please refer to the Outline of the Call for Proposals for the full list of criteria\, and detailed guidelines on how to submit a successful proposal.  \nRemember that successful events are those that involve participants\, and provide ample space for discussion and the exchange of ideas. SUMMARY:Photo Exhibition ‘’Gray Zones”
DESCRIPTION:On 11-23 June \,from 11AM to 7PM\, the Cross-Cultural Foundation (CrCF) in collaboration with SEA Junction will hold the photo exhibition “Gray Zones” in the Corner Space of BACC.  With his work\, the photographer Yostorn Trios aims to show the resilience of people in the Southern part of Thailand who go ahead with their daily life in the midst of growing tensions. \nThe photos in black\, white and gray show families\, children in schools\, people in the market or in sacred places and aim to introduce Southern Thailand to the rest of the country and beyond. The photographer as an outsider tries to reveal Thai deep south’s so-called “gray zones”\, images of normality in the shadow of conflict. SUMMARY:3rd SEAMEO SPAFA Conference on Southeast Asian Archaeology
DESCRIPTION:Background \nThis conference series convened by SEAMEO SPAFA is Southeast Asia’s first and only locally-initiated international platform dedicated to the sharing and updating of archaeological knowledge in the region. \nConferences are held every three years\, with the two previous events having been held in Chonburi (2013) and Bangkok (2016). In both events\, a majority of the participants came from Southeast Asia with numbers increasing from 120 to 220. As a feature of SEAMEO events\, SPAFA facilitates the representation of all Southeast Asian countries through the provision of Country Reports\, delivered by the nominees of the 11 Southeast Asian countries. The proceedings of the 2nd International Conference were published earlier in 2018. \nThe conference also promotes the discussion of regional issues\, such as underwater cultural heritage\, rock art and archaeology education\, as well as provide platforms for countries such as Myanmar and Singapore that have emerging local archaeological research. \nCall for sessions \nAn initial call for sessions has been launched\, which invites professionals to propose or convene a session around a specific topic. SUMMARY:Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute
DESCRIPTION:Registration: JUNE 17 TO AUGUST 9\, 2019 \nSEASSI is an eight-week intensive language training program for undergraduates\, graduate students and professionals. It has been held since 1983 and hosted by UW-Madison in 1994-1995 and then since 2000. Instruction is offered for academic credit in eight languages at the 1st\, 2nd\, and 3rd year levels. \nBURMESE\nFILIPINO\nHMONG\nINDONESIAN\nJAVANESE\nKHMER\nLAO\nTHAI\nVIETNAMESE \nQuestions about SEASSI or the status of your application? \nPlease email us: seassi@seasia.wisc.edu. \nEach language course is equivalent to two semesters of study\, with full academic year credit. Instruction is given in small individualized groups taught by a team consisting of a coordinator (usually a linguist specializing in Southeast Asian language pedagogy) and teachers who are native speakers of that language. Instruction is intensive. Classes are held from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm\, Mondays through Fridays. Most students find that they spend an additional three to four hours per day on homework. \nSEASSI also offers a limited number of spots for students to participate in SEASSI classes via distance.
