DESCRIPTION:The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce the opportunity to compete for 2018-2019 Fulbright Student Fellowships for graduate study in the United States leading to a Master’s or Doctoral degree. Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis to qualified candidates under the auspices of the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Program\, subject to the availability of funding. \nDeadline: June 1\, 2017\nThe Fulbright Program was established in 1946 by the U.S. Congress as a means “to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.” For more than sixty years the Fulbright Program has provided opportunities for foreign nationals to study\, teach\, and pursue research in the U.S.\nTo be eligible\, applicants must: \n\nHave a strong academic background and a record of excellence in previous studies;\nHave completed a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university for those applying to study in the U.S. for a Master’s degree program\, or have a Master’s degree from a recognized college or university for those applying to study in the U.S. for a Doctoral program;\nBe proficient in English (a minimum score of 570 on TOEFL or TOEFL ITP\, or 230 on computer-based TOEFL\, or 88 on internet based TOEFL\, or 7.0 on IELTS);\nDemonstrate the ability to adapt readily to a foreign environment;\nBe in good health and able to undergo a rigorous study program; and\nNot have extensive experience living or studying in the United States.\n\nFulbright Student Fellowship grants provide round-trip transportation to the United States\, as well as tuition fees\, and living expenses for full-time graduate study. SUMMARY:IUCN World Conservation Congress
DESCRIPTION:The call for proposals will be open from 2 May to 17 July 2019. \nThe essential content for the IUCN World Conservation Congress is provided by quality proposals\, submitted on a competitive basis. \nIf your proposal is selected\, in your session\, you will have an opportunity to engage a targeted and influential audience of leaders and decision makers from government\, civil society\, business\, and academia as well as conservation and sustainable development professionals from around the world. Hosting a session is not only an opportunity to showcase your organisation and its activities\, but also a chance for you to receive feedback from key stakeholders\, generate new partnerships and inform action on a global scale. \nThere are a number of different types of sessions you can consider hosting\, from formal thematic stream sessions\, focussed on developing ideas from the thematic plenaries\, to  training and capacity building sessions\, “a Campus”\, or a “Speaker Pitch” during which you can showcase your conservation work and your organisation’s achievements\, to a broad audience. \nThe session types listed below are open for proposals. Descriptions of each session type can be found on the dedicated page. \n\nThematic Stream Sessions\nSpeaker Pitches\nCampus Sessions\n\nTo be selected for inclusion in the final Congress programme\, event proposals must meet a series of criteria. \nFor example\, in addition to the overall merit of the proposal\, session proposals will be evaluated based on their alignment with the draft IUCN Programme 2021-2024\, their gender responsiveness\, their degree of youth engagement\, their intended engagement with the audience\, and other factors.Please refer to the Outline of the Call for Proposals for the full list of criteria\, and detailed guidelines on how to submit a successful proposal.  \nRemember that successful events are those that involve participants\, and provide ample space for discussion and the exchange of ideas. The variety of event types is intended to allow for a broad range of approaches and fora for learning and knowledge exchange. Please avoid proposing sessions featuring a series of speakers making presentations with slides! \nPlease note: The selection of proposals is a highly competitive process. Past Congresses have received over three times more proposals than could be accommodated. SUMMARY:Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute
DESCRIPTION:Registration: JUNE 17 TO AUGUST 9\, 2019 \nSEASSI is an eight-week intensive language training program for undergraduates\, graduate students and professionals. It has been held since 1983 and hosted by UW-Madison in 1994-1995 and then since 2000. Instruction is offered for academic credit in eight languages at the 1st\, 2nd\, and 3rd year levels. \nBURMESE\nFILIPINO\nHMONG\nINDONESIAN\nJAVANESE\nKHMER\nLAO\nTHAI\nVIETNAMESE \nQuestions about SEASSI or the status of your application? \nPlease email us: seassi@seasia.wisc.edu. \nEach language course is equivalent to two semesters of study\, with full academic year credit. Instruction is given in small individualized groups taught by a team consisting of a coordinator (usually a linguist specializing in Southeast Asian language pedagogy) and teachers who are native speakers of that language. Instruction is intensive. Classes are held from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm\, Mondays through Fridays. Most students find that they spend an additional three to four hours per day on homework. \nSEASSI also offers a limited number of spots for students to participate in SEASSI classes via distance. SUMMARY:Call For Papers: Asian Cinema Studies Society Conference\, June 2019
DESCRIPTION:Papers and panel proposals are invited for the 13th Asian Cinema Studies Society Conference: The Environments of Asian Cinemas. With the support of the Faculty of Fine Arts\, Media & Creative Industries at LASALLE College of the Arts\, in conjunction with the Asian Cinema Studies Society\, the conference is planned for 24–26 June 2019\, at LASALLE College of the Arts\, Singapore. \nParticipants are invited to present papers on any aspect of Asian cinema\, though proposals engaging with the conference theme are encouraged. One key aim here is to seek ways in which Asian cinema studies might engage with the current moment of global environmental crisis. At the same time\, however\, the conference theme of ‘environments’ is being conceptualized in a broader sense\, encompassing not only the material environments of ecocriticism\, but also Asian cinema’s represented environments and its various material\, cultural and regulatory environments of production\, distribution\, exhibition and reception. \nPossible topics may include\, but are by no means limited to\, the following areas: \n\nEcocriticism and Asian cinemas\nAnimal studies and/or plant studies approaches to Asian cinemas\nEnvironment and representation in Asian film and media\nAsian cinema and the city\nAsian cinema and the rural\nEnvironmental issues in Asian documentary\nApocalyptic themes in Asian film\nEcological implications of Asian film production and/or exhibition\nNew technological contexts of Asian film and media\nChanging regulatory frameworks of Asian film and media\nTransnational influences on Asian film production/Asian film business\nGlobalization and Asian cinemas\nRegional dynamics of Asian cinemas\nCultural issues in Asian film\nCensorship issues in Asian film\n\nPlease send proposals or enquiries to acss2019@lasalle.edu.sg \nThe deadline for submission of proposals is 10 December 2018. Notifications of acceptance will be sent out by early February 2019. \nThere will be no conference registration fee per se\, but all participants must be members of the Asian Cinema Studies Society\, which requires an annual fee of £38. The fee covers one year membership and one volume of two issues of Asian Cinema\, and gives access to the society’s executive meeting at the conference. \nSelected papers will be published in the peer-reviewed biannual Asian Cinema.
