DESCRIPTION:The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce the opportunity to compete for 2018-2019 Fulbright Student Fellowships for graduate study in the United States leading to a Master’s or Doctoral degree. Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis to qualified candidates under the auspices of the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Program\, subject to the availability of funding. \nDeadline: June 1\, 2017\nThe Fulbright Program was established in 1946 by the U.S. Congress as a means “to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.” For more than sixty years the Fulbright Program has provided opportunities for foreign nationals to study\, teach\, and pursue research in the U.S.\nTo be eligible\, applicants must: \n\nHave a strong academic background and a record of excellence in previous studies;\nHave completed a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university for those applying to study in the U.S. for a Master’s degree program\, or have a Master’s degree from a recognized college or university for those applying to study in the U.S. for a Doctoral program;\nBe proficient in English (a minimum score of 570 on TOEFL or TOEFL ITP\, or 230 on computer-based TOEFL\, or 88 on internet based TOEFL\, or 7.0 on IELTS);\nDemonstrate the ability to adapt readily to a foreign environment;\nBe in good health and able to undergo a rigorous study program; and\nNot have extensive experience living or studying in the United States.\n\nFulbright Student Fellowship grants provide round-trip transportation to the United States\, as well as tuition fees\, and living expenses for full-time graduate study. SUMMARY:Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute
DESCRIPTION:Registration: JUNE 17 TO AUGUST 9\, 2019 \nSEASSI is an eight-week intensive language training program for undergraduates\, graduate students and professionals. It has been held since 1983 and hosted by UW-Madison in 1994-1995 and then since 2000. Instruction is offered for academic credit in eight languages at the 1st\, 2nd\, and 3rd year levels. \nBURMESE\nFILIPINO\nHMONG\nINDONESIAN\nJAVANESE\nKHMER\nLAO\nTHAI\nVIETNAMESE \nQuestions about SEASSI or the status of your application? \nPlease email us: seassi@seasia.wisc.edu. \nEach language course is equivalent to two semesters of study\, with full academic year credit. Instruction is given in small individualized groups taught by a team consisting of a coordinator (usually a linguist specializing in Southeast Asian language pedagogy) and teachers who are native speakers of that language. Instruction is intensive. Classes are held from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm\, Mondays through Fridays. Most students find that they spend an additional three to four hours per day on homework. \nSEASSI also offers a limited number of spots for students to participate in SEASSI classes via distance. DESCRIPTION:GET THE BOOK & CRAFT\, SUPPORT SEA JUNCTION! \nOnce a month\, SEA Junction holds a mini book and craft fair focusing on Southeast Asia. \nFor the books\, three kinds of books are displayed: \n\nNew books given in consignment from recognized publishers with an interest in the countries of Southeast Asia including Silkworm Books from Thailand\, ISEAS from Singapore and Yayasan Pustaka Obor from Indonesia.\nNew and used books that are double to those of SEA Junction’s Library. SUMMARY:CKS Scholar-in-Residence Fellowship 2019
DESCRIPTION:The CKS Scholar-in-Residence Fellowship program offers one long-term fellowship annually to support and encourage top-quality research and writing on the history\, politics\, economics\, and other topics related to Cambodia\, as well as to promote and facilitate interdisciplinary knowledge exchange among scholars and practitioners at the Center for Khmer Studies (CKS). \nThis long-term fellowship provides a competitive remuneration to support one postdoctoral scholar/ researcher who works at the Center for a period of 6 months to a year. Funding for this program comes from the Council of American Overseas Research Centers and only U.S. citizens may apply. Selected fellow can choose to begin their term following selection. \nFellow is provided with individual office space and equipment\, in addition to full access to CKS research facilities including its extensive research library. In addition to pursuing their own research projects\, fellows also engage in an ongoing interdisciplinary exchange of ideas\, sharing their research with others in a weekly work-in-progress seminar. While in residence\, fellows are exposed to the vibrant intellectual life of the Center of Khmer Studies through its public events\, workshops\, panels\, screenings\, etc. \nThese long-term fellowships are awarded for continuous periods of residence at CKS. Fellow is expected to devote their time to research and writing as well as to develop academic programming with other CKS scholars and staff. While scholars should not be employed in Cambodia during the residence\, they are encouraged to supplement their stipend with funding from their home institutions or other non-residential fellowships or grants. \nPlease send a description of your research project (not more than 10 single-spaced pages)\, your CV (not more that 3 pages)\, and a cover letter to fellowships@khmerstudies.org not later than 30th July 2019 (Cambodia time). Please indicate in the title of your email\, Application for the Scholar-in-Residence program. \nThe Scholar-in-Residence Fellowship is intended for scholars who require extensive\, on-site research in Cambodia\, and if possible within the CKS library.
