DESCRIPTION:The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce the opportunity to compete for 2018-2019 Fulbright Student Fellowships for graduate study in the United States leading to a Master’s or Doctoral degree. Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis to qualified candidates under the auspices of the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Program\, subject to the availability of funding. \nDeadline: June 1\, 2017\nThe Fulbright Program was established in 1946 by the U.S. Congress as a means “to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.” For more than sixty years the Fulbright Program has provided opportunities for foreign nationals to study\, teach\, and pursue research in the U.S.\nTo be eligible\, applicants must: \n\nHave a strong academic background and a record of excellence in previous studies;\nHave completed a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university for those applying to study in the U.S. for a Master’s degree program\, or have a Master’s degree from a recognized college or university for those applying to study in the U.S. for a Doctoral program;\nBe proficient in English (a minimum score of 570 on TOEFL or TOEFL ITP\, or 230 on computer-based TOEFL\, or 88 on internet based TOEFL\, or 7.0 on IELTS);\nDemonstrate the ability to adapt readily to a foreign environment;\nBe in good health and able to undergo a rigorous study program; and\nNot have extensive experience living or studying in the United States.\n\nFulbright Student Fellowship grants provide round-trip transportation to the United States\, as well as tuition fees\, and living expenses for full-time graduate study. SUMMARY:5th Event of the “The Rice of Southeast Asia” Series: Photo Exhibition “Rice Terraces in the Greater Mekong Sub-region” by Giuseppe di Mauro
DESCRIPTION:In recognition of the centrality of rice in Southeast Asian culture\, in 2017 SEA Junction in collaboration with Asiatopia launched the series the “Rice of Southeast Asia”. The series aimed to explore the various dimensions of rice\, from mythology and culture to science and agriculture through lectures\, exhibitions and other events. \nThe 5th event to the series will be a solo photo exhibition on the “Rice Terraces of the Greater Mekong Sub-region” by photographer Giuseppe Di Mauro\, which will find place on 3-15 December\, from 11 AM to 7 PM in the Corner Space of BACC. The exhibition portrays the changes of rice terraces in the region from soil preparation to harvest drying\, highlighting the types of land destined for paddies\, both flat and mountainous. In particular\, the exhibited photos will showcase six moments in the natural cycle of rice\, namely when the rice fields are flooded for preparation\, moments of sowing\, the green paddies phase of growing plantation\, the yellow paddies phase of rice maturation\, the harvest moments and finally the drying methods.     \nThe photos were taken between 2010 and 2017 in the Greater Mekong Subregion by camera Nikon D90/ DX7200 \nAbout the Photographer \nGiuseppe Di Mauro is an Italian photographer who lives in Bangkok and travels widely in the region and beyond. He has developed and organized various ethnographic exhibitions dedicated to a variety of geo-cultural areas in Asia\, Africa\, Middle East and South America) with a mix of photographs and arts collections. In collaboration with Gaia Education UK. \nDetails: Mindful Facilitation for Empowerment is a highlight in our ALT Programme.\, which we have been fine-tuning over the  past 20 years. This module is to enhance capacity of participants who aspire to be empowering facilitators. \nEvery aspect of human interaction needs facilitation\, and mindful participatory facilitation is  an invaluable skill\, as it is empowering rather than dominating. The aim of this module is for leaders to gain knowledge\, skills and attitudes of empowerment vis-a-vis domination. Participants will ride a dynamic balance of mindfulness practice\, experimenting with facilitation and leading sessions to go through an holistic educational experience. \nAs part of Gaia Education certification\, two of the training days will be committed to articulation of the Sustainable Development Goals\, and the concept of Edge Work. Today’s change makers are acutely aware of the global issues facing humanity. Being grounded in the history and introduction of the UNESCO sanctioned Sustainable Development Goal leads to informed action.  In this module we learn how to initiate powerful discussion from diverse perspectives.
