DESCRIPTION:The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce the opportunity to compete for 2018-2019 Fulbright Student Fellowships for graduate study in the United States leading to a Master’s or Doctoral degree. Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis to qualified candidates under the auspices of the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Program\, subject to the availability of funding. \nDeadline: June 1\, 2017\nThe Fulbright Program was established in 1946 by the U.S. Congress as a means “to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.” For more than sixty years the Fulbright Program has provided opportunities for foreign nationals to study\, teach\, and pursue research in the U.S.\nTo be eligible\, applicants must: \n\nHave a strong academic background and a record of excellence in previous studies;\nHave completed a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university for those applying to study in the U.S. for a Master’s degree program\, or have a Master’s degree from a recognized college or university for those applying to study in the U.S. for a Doctoral program;\nBe proficient in English (a minimum score of 570 on TOEFL or TOEFL ITP\, or 230 on computer-based TOEFL\, or 88 on internet based TOEFL\, or 7.0 on IELTS);\nDemonstrate the ability to adapt readily to a foreign environment;\nBe in good health and able to undergo a rigorous study program; and\nNot have extensive experience living or studying in the United States.\n\nFulbright Student Fellowship grants provide round-trip transportation to the United States\, as well as tuition fees\, and living expenses for full-time graduate study. SUMMARY:5th Event of the “The Rice of Southeast Asia” Series: Photo Exhibition “Rice Terraces in the Greater Mekong Sub-region” by Giuseppe di Mauro
DESCRIPTION:In recognition of the centrality of rice in Southeast Asian culture\, in 2017 SEA Junction in collaboration with Asiatopia launched the series the “Rice of Southeast Asia”. The series aimed to explore the various dimensions of rice\, from mythology and culture to science and agriculture through lectures\, exhibitions and other events. \nThe 5th event to the series will be a solo photo exhibition on the “Rice Terraces of the Greater Mekong Sub-region” by photographer Giuseppe Di Mauro\, which will find place on 3-15 December\, from 11 AM to 7 PM in the Corner Space of BACC. The exhibition portrays the changes of rice terraces in the region from soil preparation to harvest drying\, highlighting the types of land destined for paddies\, both flat and mountainous. In particular\, the exhibited photos will showcase six moments in the natural cycle of rice\, namely when the rice fields are flooded for preparation\, moments of sowing\, the green paddies phase of growing plantation\, the yellow paddies phase of rice maturation\, the harvest moments and finally the drying methods.     \nThe photos were taken between 2010 and 2017 in the Greater Mekong Subregion by camera Nikon D90/ DX7200 \nAbout the Photographer \nGiuseppe Di Mauro is an Italian photographer who lives in Bangkok and travels widely in the region and beyond. He has developed and organized various ethnographic exhibitions dedicated to a variety of geo-cultural areas in Asia\, Africa\, Middle East and South America) with a mix of photographs and arts collections. DESCRIPTION:The Obama Foundation Leaders: Asia Pacific Program is a one-year leadership development and civic engagement program that seeks to inspire\, empower\, and connect emerging leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region. \nAt the beginning of the year\, we invited a group of 21 emerging leaders from 16 countries and territories across the Asia Pacific for a hands-on workshop in Hawaiʻi. Together\, we explored how to design the future Leaders program in the region. Incorporating their input\, passion\, and drive\, the context-specific and engaging leadership program is now accepting applications! \nWe’re looking for emerging leaders living in the Asia-Pacific region from a diverse mix of experiences and backgrounds to join the 21 leaders who helped design the year-long leadership program. Are you committed to advancing the common good in your community? Do you have a demonstrated potential for impact? Are you committed to leading with integrity and making values-based decisions? DESCRIPTION:Preliminary Announcement \nWe are pleased to announce the 23rd biennial conference of the Asian Studies Association of Australia (ASAA) will be held at the University of Melbourne from 6th to the 9th July 2020. The University of Melbourne hosted the inaugural ASAA in 1976 and last hosted the conference in 2000. \nThe theme for the conference is Future Asias. \nThe biennial Asian Studies Association of Australia (ASAA) Conference is the largest gathering of experts working on Asia in the southern hemisphere.  The conference has been a regular feature of Australian scholarly life since 1976. The National Library of Australia has kept a record of these conferences since 2004\, using its web archive service\, Pandora. A full list of ASAA conferences\, and any websites that still exist\, is also available on the ASAA website. \nThe conference will give us the opportunity to explore and discuss the many factors that contribute to the overall Asian Studies success. There will be an exciting program of speakers\, panels\, social activities and lots of networking opportunities. Delegates will be able to share successful strategies\, engage with key stakeholders and develop important partnerships. \nWe invite you to please mark the conference dates in your diary and consider submitting an abstract or organising a panel. A call for papers will be released in June 2019. \nThe conference organising committee also welcomes any ideas you have for additional conference events.
