SUMMARY:COVID-19 in Asia: Communication\, Nationalism and Technology
DESCRIPTION:COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic in March 2020\, following the first infections detected in Wuhan\, China in December 2019. Since then\, the number of infected cases and death rates have increased exponentially. Governments have introduced emergency and temporary laws\, placed their citizens and residents within their jurisdictions under lockdowns\, implemented stay-at-home orders\, enforced social distancing and closed their borders. The COVID-19 pandemic\, in addition to interrupting global and national economic activities and halting cross-border movements\, has exposed the weakness of global health monitoring systems and put pressure on national public health infrastructures. \nIn this environment\, the difficulties in tackling disinformation and misinformation – including about the virus and responses to it –  have been compounded by the inordinate amount of online communication. Contact tracing\, digital identification technology and surveillance have led to concerns about privacy. The pandemic has also generated inward-looking nationalism as countries\, including big powers\, increasingly look within for independent sustainability.  ‘Vaccine nationalism’ has reared its ugly head as countries race to demonstrate their technological prowess by being the first to develop one\, to manage the resulting intellectual property rights and to acquire enough stocks for their own populations.  It has fostered unprecedented online interactions leading to changes in ways of working\, business transactions and spurred innovations in the digital space.  \nBy late 2020\, countries were experiencing second or third waves of infection and deaths as resumption of some business activity and relaxing of border restrictions became necessary to revive faltering economies. As the COVID-19 pandemic lives on into 2021 and beyond\, it is important to understand its impacts – economic\, political\, social – upon national and international society. In particular\, if the pandemic has contributed to accelerating us towards the 5th industrial revolution and its likely impact on politics and society. SUMMARY:SEA Youth 2021 Online Festival for Young Southeast Asian
DESCRIPTION:SEAYouth is an online festival for Young Southeast Asians to come together\, empower each other\, and voice out their concerns about the issues related to the Southeast Asia region. The festival is organized to observe the International Youth Day (August 12) and the World Humanitarian Day (August 19) and consists of a series of open spaces\, forums\, workshops\, and any other activities that would empower youth\, hone their skills\, and culminate solidarity for a sustainable rights-based\, inclusive\, people-centered\, and youth-driven regional community. \nThe festival is organized by ASEAN Youth Forum with the support of our partners. Take a look at the people behind the festival. \nSessions \nGrand ASEAN Youth Town Hall\nYouth voices are important because the decisions and policies made today will directly affect us as we inherit the future\, as the youth can play a vital role in the development of the country. The Grand ASEAN Youth Town Hall comes as a platform to raise youth voices to the world. This is a participative forum between the youths in the Southeast Asian region which provides rich discussion towards related issues that exist in the area regionally. \n  \nConstituency open space \nAn open space dedicated to highlight youth’s intersectionality and diverse identities. This is an open space where the participants would be put together in a breakout room based on their constituency. The participant will discuss the given topics and drilling questions on behalf of their constituency\, reflecting the personal struggles and experience of the identity they represent. \nList of constituency:\n1. High School Students\n2. University / College Students & Graduates\n3. Young Workers & Professionals\n4. Human Rights Defenders & CSO / NGO workers\n5. Youth in Rural Area or Conflicted Area\n6. Youth in Migration (Exchange Students\, Refugees\, Migrant Workers\, etc)\n10. Others \nCountry open space\nAn open space dedicated to focus of the country-based issues and experience. This is an open space where the participants would be put together in a breakout room based on their countries or territories\, based on where they live or their nationality. The participant will discuss the given topics and drilling questions in relation to their country.  \nList of countries:\n1. Brunei Darussalam\n2. Cambodia\n3. Indonesia\n4. Lao PDR\n5. Malaysia\n6.
