SUMMARY:2018 Asia Foundation Development Fellows: Accepting Applications
DESCRIPTION:The Asia Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2018 Asia Foundation Development Fellows: Emerging Leadership for Asia’s Future program. The 2018 Fellowship class will be the fifth cohort of this prestigious program\, launched in 2014 to engage and empower a dynamic community of emerging leaders from all over Asia. Applications will be accepted through Nov. 20\, 2017. \nThe Development Fellows program reflects The Asia Foundation’s six-decade tradition of investing in the region’s most promising future leaders. Each year\, the program brings together an accomplished group of emerging changemakers(under 40 years of age)—NGO and civil society leaders\, government officials and policymakers\, social entrepreneurs\, journalists\, environmentalists\, and academics—who are deeply committed to building an inclusive Asia. \nDrawing participants from across disciplines\, working environments\, cultures\, and country contexts\, the year-long Development Fellows program unlocks each Fellows’ potential\, developing their abilities to address Asia’s critical development challenges such as conflict\, inequality\, and other urgent issues. \n“Our Development Fellows are entrepreneurial\, creative\, and willing to take risks. These are individuals with the unique combination of leadership skills\, depth of substantive knowledge\, and technical expertise that empowers them to solve problems in their respective societies and across Asia\,” said Asia Foundation President David D. Arnold. \nThe 2018 program will consist of two intensive modules\, including two weeks in Asia and another two weeks in the United States\, allowing Fellows to stay in their current occupations during the Fellowship year. The program will commence in April with a Leadership Development Workshop in Korea presented in partnership with the Korea Development Institute\, and will continue in Sri Lanka where the Fellows will engage with various development practitioners to understand the mechanics of change on the ground. \nIn September\, the Fellows will visit San Francisco and Washington\, D.C.\, for a leadership dialogue and exchange. A flexible professional development award of US $5\,000 will also be provided to each Fellow to use throughout the Fellowship year. \nThe call for applications will close on Nov. 20\, 2017\, with selection results to be announced in January 2018. DESCRIPTION:Description: \nThe Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report\, formerly known as the Education for All Global Monitoring Report (GMR)\, is an editorially independent\, authoritative\, and evidence-based annual report that monitors progress in education in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)\, which have been adopted as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development\, with special focus on SDG 4 on education. \nThe GEM Report Fellowship programme\, supported by OSI\, aims to strengthen the evidence base on education\, particularly in emerging economies\, build research capacity in education\, and reinforce the links between research\, policy\, and practice in education. As such\, the fellowships will be open to exceptional individuals who have quantitative research skills\, demonstrate a potential for transformational impact in their domain\, and share a commitment to provide more people with better educational opportunities. \nThe GEM Report Fellowship programme will support academic researchers and research-oriented policy-makers to carry out studies in the area of international and comparative education with a special focus on:\n1. Utilizing the GEM Report’s data resources\, notably those household and school surveys linked to the World Inequality in Education database\, to strengthen analyses of global\, regional and national education trends on issues of access\, equity\, inclusion and quality; \n\nStrengthening the content of the GEM Report with respect to its coverage of important issues at the regional and national level\, through evidence-based analyses of educational policy and practice;\ndvancing the SDG 4 monitoring agenda\, especially on issues related to the global and thematic indicator framework that have been highlighted in previous reports;\nSupporting the themes of forthcoming GEM reports\, e. inclusive education in 2020 (including a special focus on (i) disability (ii) Latin America) and the role of non-state actors in education in 2021.\n\nLocation : France \nBenefits \n\nEach fellowship will last between six months to one year\, depending on the work to be carried out\, with one month spent in Paris. The GEM Report team will provide:\n* A stipend (up to US$25\,000) for the duration of the fellowship (up to one year) and full travel costs for at least one month to be spent in Paris for each of the fellows;\n\n* A mentor from the team of GEM Report researchers. The GEM Report staff will allocate 3-5 hours per week to mentor and guide the fellows when they are in residence in Paris\, and 2 hours per week while they are based in their home country; \n* A desk and computer during their stay at the GEM Report team office\, in the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. \n\nRecipients of a fellowship will have the opportunity to work with the GEM Report team’s specialists\, one of the world’s leading teams in this field\, to conduct research and analysis of education data with a primary focus on SDG 4\, the global education goal.\nThe fellowships will help build new skills and deepen the participants’ capacity\, while also sharing their experience and knowledge with the team as well as\, where possible\, with regions and countries.\nLearning from their experience with the team\, the fellows will also be able to participate in and influence the work of the GEM Report.\n\nEligibilities : \nExperience and qualifications- \n\nAcademic background : An advanced university degree in education\, sociology\, economics\, political science\, psychology\, demography\, statistics\, psychometrics or other related fields.\nProfessional background : \n* Proven experience in policy analysis in an academic/research or a national/international agency setting.\n\n* Proven experience in organising projects in research and/or policy contexts. \n* Contacts within the education policy community would be an advantage \n* Experience with education systems in low\, middle or high income countries. \n\nTools :\n\nSound knowledge of and proven experience in the application of statistical techniques involving large scale survey data.
