SUMMARY:Master of Arts in Human Rights and Democratisation [Asia Pacific Program]
DESCRIPTION:A program co-funded by the European Commission\, the Master of Arts in Human Rights and Democratisation-Asia Pacific Program or APMA\, is the region’s premier degree in human rights and democratisation. The degree offers students the opportunity to study both at Mahidol University and one of four selected universities in the Asia Pacific\, each with a particular expertise in human rights and democratisation. The four partner universities are: \n\nAteneo de Manila Law School (the Philippines)\nUniversitas Gadjah Mada (Indonesia)\nKathmandu School of Law (Nepal)\nThe University of Colombo (Sri Lanka)\n\nObjectives \nThe APMA Program is an interdisciplinary intensive one-year graduate degree that reflects the inseparable links between human rights\, democracy\, peace and development in the region. Designed for mid-career professionals and highly motivated graduates with bachelor degree\, the degree offers students an opportunity to engage first-hand with regional and international human rights issues\, and to interact with internationally renowned human rights academics\, practitioners and experts. SUMMARY:Colonial Experiences and Their Legacies in Southeast Asia
DESCRIPTION:Registration: March 1\, 2019 \nThis multidisciplinary summer institute\, funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities\, will offer four weeks of context-rich exploration of the multiple ways in which Southeast Asian societies responded to colonial presences and how the legacies of these experiences have shaped subsequent efforts to forge national identities\, envision independent political futures\, and imagine new relationships between the state and its citizens. Moving chronologically from the late-19th century to the post-independence period\, the institute program will engage key themes\, traditions\, practices and primary texts through country case studies\, providing participants with the resources needed to develop new curricular materials for courses in a wide range of humanities and social science disciplines. The program will be co-directed by Barbara Watson Andaya (University of Hawaii) and Peter D. Hershock (East-West Center). \nApplications will be welcomed from eligible fulltime and adjunct faculty\, as well as qualified graduate students\, at American colleges and universities. Applicants with less than 5 years in the profession will be given special consideration. Participants will receive a stipend of $3300 to defray costs for travel\, housing\, meals and incidentals. DESCRIPTION:Registration: February 28\, 2019 \nThe Regional Center for Social Science and Sustainable Development (RCSD)\, Faculty of Social Sciences\, Chiang Mai University in collaboration with IARU International Alliance of Research Universities is organizing a summer course “Borderland: Critical Approaches to Field Research in the Global South” during 24 June – 19 July 2019 in Chiang Mai. \nThe course is jointly designed by UC Berkeley\, the Københavns Universitet – University of Copenhagen and Chiang Mai University. \nThemes addressed in the course include: \n\nBorders and boundaries\nMobilities and immobilities\nEnvironment and natural resource management\nHuman in/security and social justice.\n\nParticipants will have a chance to work with scholars\, communities and organizations addressing issues of local\, regional and global transformation\, and deepen their understanding of critical research approaches and processes. \nAdvanced undergraduate (bachelor) and postgraduate (master) students of Chiang Mai University’s Faculty of Social Sciences are invited to apply.
