SUMMARY:BKK Comics Art Festival – Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:bkk UNZINE and SEA Junction are proud to present Thailand’s first-ever BKK Comics Art Festival. Supported by The Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in Thailand and SAKURA Thailand\, the Festival aims to shine a light on Thailand’s rich comic book culture while giving fans the opportunity to interact with their favorite creators. \nAn unmissable event for comic book fans and budding artists\, this momentous occasion will kick off with a two-week Comics Art Exhibition on the 5th Floor of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC)\, taking place from 10 to 22 May 2022. This striking display will showcase pieces from expert and emerging artists\, art submitted to bbkunzine.com\, as well as the revamped\, comic-inspired design of the new Belgian passport. The passport’s unique aesthetic features art from the classic Bandes Dessinées (European comics) such as Tintin\, Blake and Mortimer\, Marsupilami\, Largo Winch and many more. \nThe festival then jumps into full swing with a two-day convention\, gathering comic book creatives\, publishers and scholars taking place on 14-15 May 2022\, with a sensational array of events and activities in Meeting Room 501 on the same floor of the exhibition. Bringing together Thailand’s comic book community\, the first day of the convention will feature a variety of enthralling activities that are sure to bring out the nascent artist in anyone. The second day will allow fans and enthusiasts to talk with professional artists and experts at their leisure. \n  \n \nOrganizers \nbkk UNZINE \nbkk UNZINE is a free\, independent art magazine run by Artists which is sent to subscribers every 1st of the month with submissions from artists in Bangkok and around the world based on a theme selected by the readers. We also publish the online issues on our website and create events to make people aware of the art scene in Bangkok. \nSEA Junction \nSEA Junction\, established under the Thai non-profit organization Foundation for Southeast Asia Studies (ForSEA)\, aims to foster understanding and appreciation of Southeast Asia in all its socio-cultural dimensions- from arts and lifestyles to economy and development. The second day will allow fans and enthusiasts to talk with professional artists and experts at their leisure. \n  \nSat 14th – Day 1 – Schedule (Meeting Room 501\, 5th floor): \n11:00 to 11:20 The event kicks off with an introduction of our guest artists\, speakers\, and sponsors\, as well as a rundown of the day’s events + future of bkk UNZINE and Petition for National Comics Day \n11:25 to 12:30 – A Presentation on the History of Thai Comics by Nicolas Verstappen\, Comics Scholar at Chulalongkorn University and author of The Art of Thai Comics (River Books\, 2021). \n12:45 to 13:40 – Presentation: Origins of American Comics by Peter Maresca\, Editor/publisher at Sunday Press – A look at the first American newspaper comics (1895 to 1915) and their influence on the development of modern comics around the world.  \n13:45 to 14:00 – Presentation: Slowork Publishing unveils their documentary comic book project\, made in collaboration with South-East Asian comic artists.
