SUMMARY:The Asia Studies Fellowship at the East-West Center in Washington\, D.C.
DESCRIPTION:Deadline submission: 2 January 2017\nDate: March – September 2017\nVenue: Washington\, D.C.\, United State of America\nOrganizer: The East-West Center (EWC) \nThe East-West Center (EWC) accepts applications from scholars and analysts who wish to undertake research and writing on topics of relevance to contemporary US-Asia policy. We are particularly interested in proposals regarding key challenges in U.S.-Asia relations and possible responses and approaches to addressing those challenges. Specific topics of interest include but are not limited to: competing economic initiatives in Asia\, regional institutions as well as sustaining U.S. alliances and partnerships. \nThe fellowship finances residencies for a period of three months at the East-West Center in Washington in Washington\, D.C. Exceptional proposals that justify six months will be considered if funds and space allow. While in residence\, the fellows will complete an article or monograph to be considered for publication such as the Asia Pacific Issues series or the Policy Studies series. Selected participants must also publish at least one Asia Pacific Bulletin. The first full draft of the Asia Pacific Issues series or the Policy Studies series manuscript should be completed before the end of the residency period. Fellows must also give a public seminar on their topic. Alternative formats for the publication or public presentation may be considered on an individual basis\, but must be approved by the director of the EWC in Washington. \nThe fellowship includes a monthly stipend of US$2\,500 to $5\,000 (dependent upon experience) while in residence at EWC in Washington\, round trip economy airfare to Washington\, D.C.\, and reimbursement of any applicable visa fees. Residency may begin as early as March 2017 and extend through September 2017. All fellowships must conclude by September 30. Fellows are responsible for securing their own housing and medical insurance coverage during their term of residency. \nRequirements\nApplicants with or without a Ph.D. will be considered; those without a Ph.D. will be considered based on their relevant professional experience. Applicants must be nationals of a country from the Asia-Pacific or the United States (see below for a list of eligible countries) and eligible to receive a fellowship stipend. Successful applications will include a completed online application form\, a full CV\, two letters of reference\, and a policy-relevant research proposal of five pages (double spaced). The proposal should discuss the policy problem or issue to be examined and a tentative hypothesis and arguments. A brief bibliography of the relevant literature is also welcome but not required. DESCRIPTION:Fulbright Thailand (Thailand‑United States Educational Foundation) is pleased to announce the 2018 Fulbright U.S-ASEAN Visiting Scholar Initiative. The program is open to university\, faculty\, foreign ministry or other government officials\, and professional staff of the private sector\, think tanks\, and other NGOs in the ASEAN Member States to travel to the United States for scholarly and professional research for 3-4 months on priority issues to the U.S.-ASEAN relationship and ASEAN.  It is anticipated that one qualified applicant from Thailand will be selected\, representing one of the 10 ASEAN Member States\, by a U.S. – ASEAN selection committee.   \nThe objective of the Fulbright U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholar Initiative is to deepen people-to-people engagement and strengthen our educational ties.  This marks the fifth year of the Initiative.  To date\, 40 scholars from all 10 ASEAN Member States have been awarded scholarships to pursue studies focused on a wide range of subjects including teaching English as a second language\, maritime security\, climate change\, health\, political security\, and wildlife trafficking. The chosen topics should also be of interest and relevance to Thailand and the ASEAN community. \nUp to 2 successful candidates from Thailand will be nominated for the 2018 U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholar Award.
