SUMMARY:Fellowship Opportunity: Ethnicity\, Religion\, and Conflict Resolution in Southeast Asia
DESCRIPTION:Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service is seeking to fill two fellowships at the postdoctoral or advanced PhD level for scholars of Ethnoreligious Violence and Conflict Resolution in Southeast Asia during the 2020-2021 academic year. The fellowship is an initiative of Georgetown University’s Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding\, the Asian Studies Program\, and the Berkley Center for Religion\, Peace\, and World Affairs. \nThe objective of this fellowship is to promote the study of issues of ethnicity\, religion\, and conflict in Southeast Asia by supporting early career scholars who are conducting research on this thematic area. This initiative also aims to foster increased engagement between scholars of Southeast Asia and the policymaking community in order to promote the resolution of conflicts in the region. \nRequirements and General Information \nFellows will be expected to conduct their own scholarly research\, present their research to a workshop at Georgetown\, actively participate in seminars and events related to the initiative on ethno-religious violence and conflict resolution in Southeast Asia\, engage with Georgetown faculty and students\, and contribute to an online forum on religion\, conflict\, and governance in Southeast Asia. The fellows will be situated in the Asian Studies Program and also work closely with scholars and students associated with the ACMCU and Berkley Center. \nThe fellowships aim to commence on September 1\, 2020 and end on May 31\, 2021. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic\, the fellowships will be remote during the fall semester. In the spring semester\, the fellowship may become residential if health conditions allow for it\, pending the policies of Georgetown University. Active engagement by the fellows will be expected whether the fellowship is remote or in-person. \nSuccessful candidates will have a demonstrated record of scholarship in ethnicity\, religion\, and conflict in Southeast Asia. Candidates for the post-doctoral fellowships must have defended their PhD dissertation no later than August 31\, 2020 and not before January 1\, 2017. Those applying for the pre-doctoral fellowship must have made significant progress in writing their PhD dissertations and expect to defend their dissertations by June 2021. \nThe stipend at the post-doctoral level will be $55\,000 and at the pre-doctoral level will be $35\,607. SUMMARY:Visual Documentary Project: Call for Documentaries (Theme: Love)
DESCRIPTION:The Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS)\, Kyoto University is calling for documentaries that deal with any issues or areas relating to LOVE in Southeast Asia. \nThe Visual Documentary Project aims to use visual forms of expression to compliment the growing academic literature that exists on Southeast Asian societies and help promote their rich cultures through the medium of documentaries. \nDue to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic a physical screening will not be held in Japan. However\, an international selection committee will select successful documentaries\, and a screening will be held online. \nRequirements \n\nApplicants must be from Southeast Asia or Japan.\nDocumentaries should be no longer than 30 minutes.\nApplicants should make sure they have permission from any subjects that appear in the movies.\nDocumentaries should include English subtitles. Translation and subtitling is also the responsibility of applicants. For documentaries selected for screening we require film (without subtitles) and subtitle data to be submitted by requested dates to meet translation embedding schedules.\n\n*Selected documentaries will be screened in their original languages with both Japanese and English subtitles. However\, documentaries that are in English will only have Japanese subtitles added and vice versa. \nApplications \n\nPlease upload online a copy of the production onto YouTube or Vimeo with subtitles in English.
