SUMMARY:10th Visual Documentary Project - Call for Short Documentaries
DESCRIPTION:The Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS)\, Kyoto University is calling for documentaries for the 10th Visual Documentary Project. \nThis year’s topic is Death / Life in Southeast Asia. We welcome any documentaries that deal with issues relating to any aspect relating to this year’s theme. \nDue to the ongoing Coronavirus this year’s selection will be screened as an online event. CSEAS continues to express solidarity with filmmakers in the region during this difficult time. \nREQUIREMENTS \n\nApplicants must be Citizens of Southeast Asia or Japan.\nDocumentaries should be no longer than 30 minutes.\nApplicants should make sure they have permission from any subjects that appear in the movies.\nDocumentaries should include English subtitles. Translation and subtitling is also the responsibility of applicants.\n\n*Selected documentaries will be screened in their original languages with both Japanese and English subtitles. However\, documentaries that are in English will only have Japanese subtitles added and vice versa. \nABOUT THE PROJECT \nThe Center for Southeast Asian Studies\, Kyoto University started the “Visual Documentary project” in 2012. This project aims to use visual forms of expression to complement the growing literature that exists on Southeast Asian societies. From 2014-2019\, the Japan Foundation Asia Center joined this project as a co-organizer to help widely promote the richness of Southeast Asian cultures to people in Japan. SUMMARY:SEAMEO-Jasper Research Award 2021/2022
DESCRIPTION:The SEAMEO‐Jasper Research Award was established in 1990 with the support of the Government of Canada to recognise exemplary research conducted by Southeast Asian nationals in the region. The Award aims to encourage young scholars to pursue research on a relevant theme on social development in Southeast Asia and facilitate continued interaction and knowledge‐sharing among Southeast Asian and Canadian researchers. \nThe theme for 2021/2022 is ‘Addressing the Education Crisis: Intervention Programmes for Mitigating Learning Gaps and Learning Loss.’ \nResearch studies may cover one or more areas in overcoming the education crisis of learning gaps and learning loss\, as follows: \n\nStrengthening student’s well-being and mental health;\nAdapting evaluation and assessment components;\nTeacher and training support;\nCapacity building;\nFamily involvement; and\nEconomic issues related to education.\n\nEligible Applicants \n\nA national of a SEAMEO Member Country only*;\nHolder of advanced degrees;\nNot more than 55 years of age at the time of application;\nNot currently associated with or employed by any of the SEAMEO Centres/Network or SEAMEO Secretariat;\nNot previously received any awards organised by SEAMEO Secretariat;\nFor studies/projects conducted by a team of researchers\, only one author will be eligible for nomination. The submission should include a written note from the co‐author(s) waiving any claim to the Award\, in case the research is selected; and a statement indicating the nominee’s level of responsibility (in percentage) for the research work; and\nPhysically fit to travel; certification by a competent physician may be requested before travelling.\n\n *SEAMEO Member Countries: Brunei Darussalam\, Cambodia\, Indonesia\, Lao PDR\, Malaysia\, Myanmar\, Philippines\, Singapore\, Thailand\, Timor-Leste\, and Vietnam. \nEligible Research Entries \n\nThe research must be a completed research study/project conducted in Southeast Asia (covering one country or more in the Southeast Asia region) relating to the identified theme for the Award.\nThe research must have been completed within the past two years.\nAll submissions\, including photo captions and other materials\, must be in English.\nAll research entries conducted for graduate/post‐graduate theses or doctoral dissertations will not be accepted.\nResearch entries from previous winners of the SEAMEO‐Jasper Research Award and other SEAMEO Awards will not be accepted.\nA research entry should comprise: The 20-page summary of the research paper; a one-page abstract of the research paper; and Complete research paper.\nResearch entry should have the following essential sections: Introduction (including rationale\, statement of the problem\, research objectives); Methodology; Results and Discussions; Conclusions and Recommendations; References; and Appendices.\nNon‐winning research entries may be selected in SEAMEO’s Southeast Asian Journal of Education\, subject to permission/approval from the author.\n\nSource: https://www.seameo.org/Main_programme/285#1/ \n

SUMMARY:Southeast Asian Educational Awards
DESCRIPTION:The Southeast Asian Educational Innovation Award seeks to recognize achievements of teachers\, achool heads\, community education workers and other development workers that made a difference in the lives of the learners and communities through the creative application of an idea into practical solution to address an education concern. \nThese may involve the novel and creative use of educational tools\, concepts\, processes or their combinations to produce new and better results. The innovative practices\, developed and applied by teachers\, principals (or headmasters) and other education workers in their classes and learning sessions or through activities and initiatives in the schools that brought on positive impact on learners and the communities are highlighted and shared among other education workers. \nThe award aims to \n\nHonor and give recognition to teachers and school heads in Southeast Asia who made exemplary achievements in introducing and applying innovative practices;\nSeek out and document innovative practices and the context in which these innovations led to achievement of learning goals and in overcoming limited resources and constraints;\nHighlight examples of effective innovative teaching and learning practices as examples for other education workers; and\nEncourage interaction and cooperation among education workers across the region through the dissemination of the award-winning innovations.\n\nThe theme for the FY 2021-2022 Award Cycle is “Educational Innovations in the Time of COVID: Exploring Possibilities and Improving Learning for All.” \nFor the 2021-2022 Award cycle\, individuals recognized as leaders and proponents of the innovations adopted in the schools\, learning centers or communities may be nominated in either of the following categories: \n\nTeachers\nSchool Heads or Education Supervisors\n\nThe Nominees should be \n\nPracticing teachers\, school heads and community education workers\nCitizens/subjects of SEAMEO Member Countries\nThe nominees may be employed by a government agency\, community-based organization\, recognized non-government organization or a partner organization in an education development project\nAt the final selection stage\, the INNOTECH Governing Board may seek endorsement from the Ministry of Education concerned\n\nThe award recognizes the value of group effort and collaboration in developing and introducing innovations for improving teaching and learning. SUMMARY:Call for Applications: ANFREL SEA Media Fellowship on Election Reporting
DESCRIPTION:The Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL)\, the leading election monitoring group in Asia\, is proud to launch its pilot media fellowship on election reporting for Southeast Asian journalists. \nThe fellowship program seeks to equip journalists from independent news outlets and freelance journalists in empowering the electorate through crucial reporting of underrepresented voices and underreported issues during elections. \nANFREL believes that the media play important roles during elections in helping the electorate make informed decisions and in monitoring the electoral process against irregularities and corruption. This fellowship will reinforce and strengthen the important roles the media play in ensuring free and fair elections in the region. \nThe selected media fellows will undergo training from election specialists selected by ANFREL to hone their skills and learn about the technical aspects of electoral processes. They will also pursue reporting of election-related issues with mentorship and guidance from the ANFREL team and a dedicated editor/media specialist. \nSuccessful applicants should be able to demonstrate experience in reporting on elections or related stories\, confirm their commitment to the fellowship\, and present an editorial plan for an in-depth story or series of stories that they will pursue throughout the program. \nApplications must be sent to anfrel@anfrel.org with the subject “ANFREL SEA Media Fellowship Application”. The deadline for submitting applications is on 31 August 2021\, 5 p.m. (Bangkok time). \nShortlisted applicants will be scheduled for interviews in September 2021. The media fellowship program will run from September 2021 to January 2022 included. \nTheme: Elections amid the COVID-19 pandemic \nThe COVID-19 pandemic has caused the disruption of everyday life. The crisis has initially made states and territories around the world cancel their scheduled elections. But as some have taken risks\, many are following their example by holding elections amid the so-called “new normal.” The restrictions in place to curb the pandemic\, however\, have posed certain challenges to the electorate and the electoral processes. \nEligibility \n➜ Journalists from small independent media outlets\, local-based community media\, or freelance working in ASEAN countries (Brunei\, Cambodia\, Indonesia\, Laos\, Malaysia\, Myanmar\, Philippines\, Singapore\, Thailand\, Vietnam) and Timor Leste.\n➜ At least three years of demonstrable experience in reporting elections\, politics\, and/or human rights issues. \nRequirements \n➜ Application statement which expresses your interest in the program and demonstrates your experience and background as a journalist.\n➜ Resume with contact information of at least two character references.\n➜ Links to portfolio/sample works.\n➜ An editorial plan for a story or series of stories related to the theme that you wish to pursue under the program containing the statement of the issue and how you plan to approach the story.\n➜ As available fellow positions are limited\, ANFREL also invites applicants to present how they plan to share what they learn from the program with their organization and/or community.\n➜ Waiver from your media outlet\, if applicable. \nSupport offered by ANFREL to successful applicants: \n➜ Training and mentorship.\n➜ Financial and editorial support for the production of a story/series of stories on election-related issues. \nThis program is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Mission of Canada to ASEAN. \n
