DESCRIPTION:The Centre on Asia and Globalisation (CAG)\, at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy\, National University of Singapore\, invites applications for TWO Research Fellowships in the fields of: \n\nInternational Relations\, with a focus on Southeast Asia\nInternational Politics of Technology\n\nThe Lee Kuan Yew School is a leading school of public policy with an international faculty and student body. CAG was established in 2006 to provide accurate\, independent\, and high-quality analysis on issues of regional and global significance for academia\, decision-makers\, commentators\, and the general public. Its current research agenda focuses on the prospects of regional and global order; the future of economic globalisation/de-globalisation and their impact on Asia; the alignment postures of Southeast Asia in an era of superpower competition; and the impact of technology and artificial intelligence on international politics (https://lkyspp.nus.edu.sg/cag). \nDescription \nThe candidate will conduct independent\, in-depth\, and publishable research on issues in his/her expertise and contribute to the Centre’s agenda on: \n\nThe international relations of Southeast Asia OR\nThe international politics of technology\, including but not limited to the geopolitics of technological competition\, techno-nationalism\, and the strategic implications of emerging technology. The preferred regional area of focus is Asia (Northeast\, Southeast Asia\, and South Asia).\n\nS/he is expected to initiate and organize research projects\, workshops\, conferences\, and other research events. S/he should be able to reach out to publishers and actively engage with academia\, policy practitioners\, and media and business leaders\, as well as apply for external grants. SUMMARY:Call for Application:  Research Collaboration Program: Population\, Migration\,Health\, Conflict and Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:The Mekong Region Development Research Group (MRDRG)\, funded by the Henry Luce Foundation & coordinated by the University of Utah Asia Center\, requests applications for a mentored\, collaborative Research Program in Population\, Migration\, Health\, Conflict & Climate Change. The seven month-long programs will support research teams\, composed of senior scholars from North America and Asia and junior researchers from Southeast and South Asia\, in the development of a collaborative\, co-authored research paper addressing themes of population\, migration and health in Asian contexts affected by conflict and/or climate change. \nJunior Researcher participating in the program will be matched with a senior scholar/scholarly team whom they will design and implement an analysis for publication in an English-alnguage\, peer-reviewed social science journal. The Research Program will begin during June 2023\, with a 3-5 day visit to the senior scholar’s institution for an orientation \, focused writing \, and meetings to develop their projects. For the next 5-6 months\, the research team will meet(via zoom) on a monthly or biweekly bais to work on designated research tasks and refine their research project. Over this time\, the senior researchers and the other member of the mRDRG leadership tema will provide guidance and training to participants in academic writing\, data analysis and/or presentation of research results\, so that the team ca work towards a completed manuscript for journal submission. The specific role and tasks of the mentee and mentors will be established at the beginning of the program\, based upon their skills and goals\, and as agreed upon in consultation with the mentor. During the program\, participants will be expected to meet project tasks delineated with their mentor(s)/co-author(s) at the start of the program\, attend several information/training sessions\, and attend and actively participate in regular\, scheduled meetings with their authorship team. \nThe research program will culminate at a meeting and symposium over three days in mid- December 2023. At the symposium\, research teams will present their findings to the wider MRDRG community. Participants will also receive training on academic writing\, and will be provided focused writing time\, and iterative feedback on drafts of thie manuscripts. Research teams aim to submit their manuscripts for publication in the first half of 2024. \nLuce Foundation grant to the MRDRG will cover all costs of travel to the senior researcher’s institution\, and participant symposium attendance (airfare\, hotel\, per diem\, meals\, visa costs\, and ground transportation).   \nEligibility. Eligible participants for the Research Program in Population\, Migration\, Health\, Conflict & Climate Change will:   \n\nHave (or be currently pursuing) a M.S./Ph.D. in a social science discipline.  As the program is for junior scholar mentorship\, applicants should be Ph.D students\, or have completed their Ph.D. within the past seven years.  Applicants working within higher education\, NGO\, or other sectors are welcome.  \nBe a resident or national of the countries of Southeast or South Asia.  Or\, be a current Ph.D. student in North America with experience conducting social science research in Southeast Asia.  \nPossess experience and training in statistical analysis that is sufficient for independentlymanipulating data (e.g.\, merging datasets\, creating/recoding variables) and conducting multivariate data analysis (e.g.\, OLS\, logit and other regression techniques).  \nDemonstrate a good fit and strong interest in the program themes\, i.e.\, the role of climate change and/or armed conflict in health and/or population studies.\nBe able to commit to the Research Program activities and timeline from June to December 2023.  \n\nApplication Instructions: \nApplicants should provide the requested information in application form\, and submit a CV\, the name and contact information for two professional references\, and a writing sample (on which the applicant is sole or lead author) to Kim Korinek (kim.korinek@soc.utah.edu) and Bryce Garner (bryce.garner@utah.edu) no later than April 15\, 2023.  \n  \nFor further information\, please click here \n
