SUMMARY:SG Academies South-East Asia Fellowship (SASEAF) Programme (2024 Round)
DESCRIPTION:Overview \nThe SG Academies South-East Asia Fellowship (SASEAF) Programme aims to attract bright postgraduate researchers from South-East Asia to Singapore research institutions for a 2-year long fellowship. This fellowship was first known as the SNAS ASEAN Fellowship in 2020\, renamed to the SG Academies ASEAN Fellowship\, then further revised to SASEAF in 2021. It is now administered by three academies in Singapore – the Singapore National Academy of Science (SNAS)\, together with the Academy of Medicine Singapore (AMS)\, and the Academy of Engineering Singapore (SAEng) – and funded by the National Research Foundation (NRF).  \n\nThe following research topics are preferred but not mandatory. Applicants may propose any field of research done in Singapore’s research institutions. A list of public institutions can be found here.\n\n\n\n\nInfectious Diseases*\nPopulation Health/Public Health\nSustainability\, including Urban Agriculture\n\n\n\n*Candidates working on infectious diseases topics may take part in the PREPARE programme by NRF and MOH (National Programme for Research in Epidemic Preparedness And REsponse: PREPARE). A list of potential host PIs (infectious diseases only) can be found here. \nShort SASEAF (6 months PROGRAMME) – infectious diseases only \n\nCandidates working on infectious diseases may propose dry-lab based projects that can be completed within 6 months. The intent is to reduce their period of absence and facilitate maintaining strong links with institutions in their home countries. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of establishing strong international institutional and researcher networks to increase our collective preparedness and responsiveness to future pandemics.\nA list of potential host PIs (infectious diseases only) can be found here. Note that this list is not exhaustive.\n\nFellowship support \n\n\n\nA monthly stipend ranging from S$ 4\,000 to 6\,500. The exact figure will depend on the experience and performance of the Fellow.\nS$ 4\,000 for overseas travel at the start and end of the 2-year long fellowship period. \nAccess to professional development opportunities (events\, seminars and training programmes). \nForm lasting connections & partnerships with SASEA Fellows and Singapore.\n\n\n\nEligibility \nCitizenship: Applicants must be citizens of an ASEAN country and non-Singapore-based. \n\nDegree: Applicants must have a PhD Degree and is working/have a confirmed job offer in a public-sector research entity in home country\nAge limit: Applicants should not be more than 40 years-old at the time of application.\nLanguage: Applicants must be fluent in written and spoken English.\n\nDocuments Required for Application  \n\nApplication Form\nResearch Proposal (no longer than 2 pages) developed in consultation with the host professor(s) / PI(s) at the Singapore University.\nHost professor / PI’s in-principle approval with his/her official email ID.\nCertified copies of diplomas and transcripts.\nTwo recommendation letters from referees (e.g. current / past supervisors\, collaborators etc.) stating your suitability for this fellowship. The letters should be submitted directly by your referee. Instructions can be found here.\n\nReview Criteria \n\nApplicant’s training\, aptitude and experience: Academic qualifications\, performance\, relevant experience\, aptitude to benefit from the fellowship program and the ability to add value after his / her return home.\nRelevance and Quality of the Research Proposal: The proposal must be well-designed\, innovative and the stipulated outputs must be achievable during the fellowship tenure.\nPersonal Qualities: The applicant should continue to practice science after completion of this fellowship and contribute to scientific advancements through various means\, including formal education\, science promotion / application or policy-making\, for a better and stronger South-East Asia.
