Applied Drama for Change

13 February, 2020

In this course, participants will be introduced to a range of applied theatre and drama education approaches, including community-building exercises and theatre games, image theatre, process drama, short forum and collective playmaking exercises. Throughout the experiential workshop, participants will examine the various elements of drama and key concepts that inform this working approach.

The interactive form of applied drama uses physical imagery and improvisation creating a space for people to express themselves and to listen to each other in order to build a platform for community dialogue. It is an experiential way of learning by doing.

The rationale of effective application of drama approach is embedded along with practices of deep listening and theatrical artistry. Through practically exploring different forms, participants will be engaged in exploring social change through personal change, as well as experience a new dimension of self-learning and discovery. Each day builds on the knowledge and experience acquired in the previous day, the participants will develop more in-depth understanding of the components of using applied drama as pedagogy and transformation agent.
