SEA Youth 2021 Online Festival for Young Southeast Asian

SEAYouth is an online festival for Young Southeast Asians to come together, empower each other, and voice out their concerns about the issues related to the Southeast Asia region. The festival is organized to observe the International Youth Day (August 12) and the World Humanitarian Day (August 19) and consists of a series of open spaces, forums, workshops, and any other activities that would empower youth, hone their skills, and culminate solidarity for a sustainable rights-based, inclusive, people-centered, and youth-driven regional community.

The festival is organized by ASEAN Youth Forum with the support of our partners. Take a look at the people behind the festival.

Sessions

Grand ASEAN Youth Town Hall

Youth voices are important because the decisions and policies made today will directly affect us as we inherit the future, as the youth can play a vital role in the development of the country. The Grand ASEAN Youth Town Hall comes as a platform to raise youth voices to the world. This is a participative forum between the youths in the Southeast Asian region which provides rich discussion towards related issues that exist in the area regionally.

 

Constituency open space

An open space dedicated to highlight youth’s intersectionality and diverse identities. This is an open space where the participants would be put together in a breakout room based on their constituency. The participant will discuss the given topics and drilling questions on behalf of their constituency, reflecting the personal struggles and experience of the identity they represent.

Country open space

An open space dedicated to focus of the country-based issues and experience. This is an open space where the participants would be put together in a breakout room based on their countries or territories, based on where they live or their nationality. The participant will discuss the given topics and drilling questions in relation to their country.

Youth presentations on aichr

selected youth have prepared together to present their ideas, proposals, and recommendations on the advancement of human rights in southeast asia. the presentations will be included in the documentation in form of publication. this presentation is organized by school of advocacy for youth on human rights in southeast asia.

Yuwana stage

yuwana stage is a space for young southeast asians and artists to take the mic, claim the space, and say, perform, and share anything to the festival audience. the performances can be (not limited to) a performative speech, oration, monologue, poetry reading, singing, dancing, or simply a sharing of just one thing about how you are feeling about the current situation in the world. this session is organized by yuwana team. kindly visit and download yuwana zines.

Democratic space

a space where youth come together to have a democratic discussion and decide on the elements in the sea youth collective statement 2021. democratic spaces will be happening during grand asean youth town hall and at the final day of the festival.

Call me by my name

one of the words in the tagline of the seayouth festival 2021 is “engage”. it translates into  “youth engagement is the result when young people are involved in responsible, challenging actions to create positive social change. this means involving youth in planning and in making decisions that affect themselves and others”. one of the key definitions is to involve the participants into getting to know each other, see how shared beliefs could not only inspire but also ignites possible collaborations for social change. in this session, participants take turn to introduce themselves.
