นับจากเดือนตุลาคม 2564 ไปจนถึงกลางปี 2565 จะเป็นช่วงเวลาสำคัญของงานด้านอนุรักษ์ความหลากหลายทางชีวภาพ เพราะจะมีการประชุมระดับโลก The Fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 15) ในกลุ่มประเทศสมาชิกของอนุสัญญาความหลากหลายทางชีวภาพ (Convention on Biodiversity-CBD)) เพื่อร่วมกันออกแบบกรอบงานความหลากหลายทางชีวภาพของโลกหลังปี พ.ศ.2563 หรือที่เรียกว่า The Post 2020-Global Biodiversity Framework ซึ่งประเทศภาคีจะนำไปกำหนดยุทธศาสตร์และเป้าหมายระดับชาติเพื่อให้บรรลุเป้าหมายในการอนุรักษ์ความหลากหลายทางชีวภาพของโลกได้สำเร็จภายในปี พ.ศ. 2593 นอกจากยุทธศาสตร์และเป้าหมายที่จะกำหนดขึ้นใหม่แล้ว สิ่งที่สำคัญไม่น้อยไปกว่ากันคือ องค์ความรู้ที่จะนำมาใช้ในการกำหนดทิศทางการทำงาน ซึ่งนอกจากองค์ความรู้ทางวิทยาศาสตร์และวิชาการที่เกี่ยวข้องแล้ว ภูมิปัญญาและความรู้ในท้องถิ่นและจากภาคประชาชนก็มีความสำคัญไม่น้อย เมื่อคำนึงถึงขนาดของปัญหาและความท้าทายที่ครอบคลุมประเทศไทยในวงกว้าง Citizen Science หรือวิทยาศาสตร์ภาคพลเมือง เป็นแนวทางหนึ่งที่กำลังได้รับการผลักดันให้เป็นที่ยอมรับมากขึ้น ผ่านการสร้างเครือข่ายอาสาสมัครมาร่วมทำการศึกษาวิจัยโดยเน้นการเก็บรวมรวมข้อมูล โดยได้มีการพัฒนาเครื่องมือต่างๆ เพื่อนำมาใช้เก็บข้อมูลความหลากหลายทางชีวภาพในท้องถิ่นเพื่อประกอบข้อมูลข้อท็จจริงทางวิทยาศาสตร์อื่นๆ แอพพลิเคชั่นต่างๆ รวมทั้ง iNaturalist เป็นอีกหนึ่งเครื่องมือที่ได้รับการพัฒนาขึ้น…
