“The Borneo Case” Screening and Discussion
The Thailand premiere of The Borneo Case will be at SEA Junction 7 July at 5.30-7.30PM. The documentary is about the tragic destruction of the rainforests in Sarawak. SEA Junction Director, Dr. Rosalia Sciortino, will provide two orientation classes at SEA Junction to new students of the Master of Arts in International Development Studies (MAIDS) of Chulalongkorn Universities. Exhibition “Qilins and Phoenixes: Indonesian Chinese Peranakan Batik”
In 2009 batik -- cloths made using a technique of wax-resist dyeing-- was selected for the World Cultural Intangible Heritage list of UNESCO. This international aknowledgment recognized the contribution of the diverse cultures of Indonesia, and especially of Javanese culture, to the development and sophistication of this outstanding textile art of Southeast Asia.
