Asiatopia: Performance Art Conference Southeast Asia

  • Taboo, Censorship & Curating: Struggles over Historical Narratives in SEA
  • Identities and Prejudices: Gender, Women, LGBT, Race, Queering Performance Art
  • New Developments in Performance & Live Art: Socially Engaged Performance, Community Interventions, Ecology & Environmental-Based Performance

Oral History Project:

Story telling is an oldest form of recording history. The Oral History meetings take place throughout the conference in national languages, as determined by the participants. We are hoping that in these sessions the separate origins and development of performance art in Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam will be elucidated.

Performance workshops and laboratory:

  • Evamaria Schaller (AUSTRIA)
  • Ivor Stodolsky & Marita Muukkonen (FINLAND) (Tentative)

Live actions:

Approximately 50 artists from SE Asia and Europe and America will perform their live actions throughout the 5 days of the conference.

Student Performances:

Thai art students and international students from Europe will join together to organize an open event on 19 August.
