Southeast Asia Youth Leadership Program (SEAYLP)
30 March, 2020
The Southeast Asia Youth Leadership Program (SEAYLP) brings 60 high school students from Southeast Asia to the United States each year through a U.S. State Departmentgrant. Participants learn about diversity and cultural appreciation, community action and activism, and networking and collaboration within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The program utilizes an active approach that includes community service, field trips to US sites and schools, group projects, American family home stays and community engagement.
NIU’s Center for Southeast Asian Studies will host SEAYLP 2020 in April, welcoming participants from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar (Burma), the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. While in the U.S., these talented young people will engage in courses and workshops on access and equity, green technology for economic growth, security, leadership, teambuilding and cultural diversity, concluding with a three-day study tour of the nation’s capital.
Mandatory Predeparture Forms for Participants
Global Youth Leaders Camp
