Applied Drama for Change

In this course, participants will be introduced to a range of applied theatre and drama education approaches, including community-building exercises and theatre games, image theatre, process drama, short forum and collective playmaking exercises. Throughout the experiential workshop, participants will examine the various elements of drama and key concepts that inform this working approach.
The interactive form of applied drama uses physical imagery and improvisation creating a space for people to express themselves and to listen to each other in order to build a platform for community dialogue. It is an experiential way of learning by doing.
The rationale of effective application of drama approach is embedded along with practices of deep listening and theatrical artistry. Through practically exploring different forms, participants will be engaged in exploring social change through personal change, as well as experience a new dimension of self-learning and discovery. Each day builds on the knowledge and experience acquired in the previous day, the participants will develop more in-depth understanding of the components of using applied drama as pedagogy and transformation agent.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:
Yi-man Au, PhD
Is an applied theatre/drama education practitioner, trainer and researcher. She received her PhD from University of Melbourne and Master Degree in Applied Drama from University of Exeter. She has been involved in more than a hundred projects on applied theatre/drama education both in educational and community settings.

LOCATION:
Bo Nok Beach is the beautiful white sandy beach with 7 kilometers length and not too deep shore ideal for swimming. The beach located in Bo Nok Sub-district which there is a road running parallel to the beach, with coconut groves and shrimp farms along one side and fisherman huts and fishing boats at intervals along the other, lending a lively atmosphere to beach strollers, especially at the sunrise in the early morning. In addition, surfacing whales will be noticeable frequently, each time for approximately 3 hours, during August-October. A flock of Bruda whales feeding in this area indicates that Bo Nok is one of the much fertile seas in the Gulf of Thailand.

Besides the learning fee, the price includes FULL BOARD (3 meals + 2 snacks/ day) and LODGING in a shared room a beachfront resort.
