Dear All,

February at SEA Junction was full of colors and art forms, from the discussion of activism and art in Singapore to impressive dances, photographs and painting classes and exhibition from Indonesia. In March we will continue some of these activities, while also focus on other dimensions of Southeast Asia.

SEA Junction’s events continue to be well attended and media are starting to show interest. I was interviewed by InThailandia a journal for Italians in Thailand and SEA Junction was also profiled in Kompas, the main daily newspaper in Indonesia. To read cklick http://www.inthailandia. org/sea-junction/ and http://print.kompas.com/baca/ sosok/2017/02/27/Membangun- Jembatan respectively.

I also include here the link to a comprehensive account by a participant of one of our previous event related to migrant workers in the Thai fishing industry as I believe you will find it of interest http://seajunction. org/harsh-life-shore-migrant- workers-thai-fishing-industry/

Looking forward to welcoming you and please help us disseminating this information to your network.

PUBLIC LECTURE HOW THAI MEDIA MADE: GAY BANGKOK” PRINT MEDIA AND ACTIVISM IN THAI LESBIAN, GAY AND KATHOY HISTORY 1965-2010 BY EMERITUS PROFESSOR PETER A JACKSON
Thailand is well known internationally for its highly visible, diverse and increasingly vocal transgender, lesbian and gay cultures and communities and is often highlighted in the media  for its so-called cultural “tolerance” of gender and sexual diversity.  However, in his public talk at SEA Junction on 28 March at 5-7PM Peter Jackson, Emeritus Professor of Thai history and cultural studies in the Australian National University’s College of Asia and the Pacific, will show how recent Thailand’s now very public queer communities are having come into being in the later decades of the 20th century. See further: http://seajunction.org/event/thai-media-made-gay-bangkok-emeritus-professor-peter-jakcson/
