Theme: Weaving Southeast Asia’s Tapestry: The Philippines’ Integral Role in Exploring Culture, History, and Religions
The 10th PASCHR International Conference, organized by the Philippine Association for the Study of Culture, History and Religion in partnership with De La Salle University-Southeast Asia Research Center and Hub (DLSU-SEARCH), University of Santo Tomas (UST)-College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CTHM), Center for Conservation of Cultural Property and Environment in the Tropics (CCCPET), and Dalubhasaang Politekniko ng Lungsod ng Baliwag (BTECH), welcomes papers that focus on the Philippines within the broader Southeast Asian narrative that will delve into our understanding of the interconnectedness and shared heritage of this vibrant region. The main theme of the conference is to position the Philippines as a pivotal point in the study of Southeast Asia. As a diverse country with a rich cultural heritage, the Philippines offers a unique perspective within the broader Southeast Asian context. Overall, the conference endeavors to shed light on the country’s significant contributions to understanding culture, history, and religions.
Sub-themes:
Philippine Contemporary Issues and Future Perspectives. This sub-theme will address contemporary challenges and opportunities in the study of the Philippines within Southeast Asia. Focus on issues such as globalization, cultural preservation, heritage management, social change, and the future trajectories of Philippine-Southeast Asian relations.
Art, Literature, and Performance. This sub-theme will examine the artistic expressions, literary traditions, and performing arts of the Philippines in Southeast Asian cultural production. Underscore visual arts, literature, theater, music, dance, and how artistic practices reflect regional influences.
Survey on Oral Traditions and Linguistic Diversity. This sub-theme will explore the linguistic diversity of the Philippines and its connections to Southeast Asian languages. Discussion on language families, language contact, oral traditions, folklore, and the role of language in cultural identity.
Cultural Exchanges and Tourism. This sub-theme will delve into the cultural exchanges, travel, tourism, movements and shared traditions between the Philippines and other Southeast Asian nations. Concentration on the Travel and Tourism sector’s significant contribution to global cultural, economic, and social development with emphasis on the tangible and intangible cultural heritage the Philippine shares with its Southeast Asian neighbors.
Historical Narratives of the Philippines in Southeast Asia. This sub-theme will explore the Philippines’ place within Southeast Asian History. Retrospection on the pre-colonial era, maritime trade networks, regional empires, colonial influences, and the Philippines’ interactions with other Southeast Asian states.
Religious Dynamics in Southeast Asia. This sub-theme will focus on the religious landscape of the Philippines and its ramifications within the broader Southeast Asian context. Amplification of indigenous belief systems, transmission and transplantation of major religions, syncretism, religious practices, and interreligious dialogue.
Guidelines for the Submission of ABSTRACTS
- An abstract of about 300 words (maximum) with sufficient details of the significance of the research question(s), conceptual framing, methodology, and key findings. It should also include the following:
– Title of the Study
– Author/s and email address/es
– Name of the Institution

- Use Times New Roman font style; 11 font size in all parts, single space.
- All research abstracts must be submitted not later than 20 November 2023. Notification of acceptance will be issued on 20 December 2023 or earlier.
- Hybrid Mode of Presentation: Option for onsite or online presentation, maximum of 20 minutes. Those opting for online/virtual presentation must submit a pre-recorded video to be uploaded on YouTube. Link must be indicated in the paper submission form.
Publications
Selected full papers will be recommended for publication in the PASCHR Journal, SSEASR Journal, and the special Commemorative Book.
