Dear Partners and Friends of SEA Junction,
This month, we are thrilled to present a lineup of events that focus on art and sustainability, environmental issues, and migration.
Kicking off August, we invite you to explore the world of sustainable fashion through a mini textile exhibition featuring an Indonesian artist Intan Anggita Pratiwie. To complement the exhibition, we are organizing a book discussion and workshop on the same theme. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about upcycling old clothes through natural dyeing and mindful hand stitching, empowering them to make sustainable choices in their everyday lives.
Continuing our commitment to environmental awareness, our partnership with Bangkok Tribune News continues with the monthly Dialogue Forum (In Thai). This time, the topic is about the El Nino as well as its impact and the event details will be soon announced. Additionally, we will have a special forum on human-elephant conflict in Eastern Thailand, in collaboration with the same partners and with the addition of Luke Duggleby, whose exhibition on the same floor of our venue coincides with the event.
The subject of migration also holds utmost importance, and this month, we are collaborating with the IPSR, Mahidol University, for two events. Firstly, our bi-monthly Wednesday SEA Mobilities series continues with a focus on exploring the health conditions of Thai migrant workers in Israel. Secondly, we’re planning a policy forum on replacement migration policy and more details about this event will be announced shortly.
Last but not least, we remain dedicated to keeping Myanmar in the spotlight with our #WhatsHappeninginMyanmar Monthly Updates, which will be held online as usual. We also continue to upload more stories, as part of our ongoing Living the Coup initiative, offering insights into the current daily challenges in Myanmar after the coup. The most recent story can be read at this link.
For more detailed information about each event, please refer to the section below. We hope you will continue to find our program of interest. We count on your participation and help in sharing the information about our programs with your network. And, if you would like to support us, please click on the donation box below.

Special Forum and Artist Talk:
A Fragile Coexistence – Humans & Elephants in Eastern Thailand
25 August 2023, 10:00 am – 12:30 pm at SEA Junction
By the 20th century’s start, Thailand had 100,000 elephants; today, there are under 3,000 due to poaching and habitat loss. Efforts to safeguard remaining forests led to explosive elephant population growth, pushing them beyond protected areas and sparking intense human-elephant conflict. To foster public dialogue and awareness on this issue, the special forum and artist talk, along with photo exhibition on the same floor, will be held in partnership with journalist/photographer Luke Duggleby and Bangkok Tribune News.

For over three decades, Israeli farmers have been employing Thai migrant laborers in their agricultural sector, facilitated by bilateral agreements between Israel and Thailand.
