This month, the mini book fair will be held on the second weekend due to the collective painting exhibition in the previous weekend. The book fair in the space in front of SEA Junction showcases a limited collection of new and used books on various aspects of Southeast Asia. This time we will also offer literature books from all over the world donated to us for this purpose. PUBLIC LECTURE HOW THAI MEDIA MADE: GAY BANGKOK” PRINT MEDIA AND ACTIVISM IN THAI LESBIAN, GAY AND KATHOY HISTORY 1965-2010 BY EMERITUS PROFESSOR PETER A JACKSON
Thailand is well known internationally for its highly visible, diverse and increasingly vocal transgender, lesbian and gay cultures and communities and is often highlighted in the media for its so-called cultural “tolerance” of gender and sexual diversity. However, in his public talk at SEA Junction on 28 March at 5-7PM Peter Jackson, Emeritus Professor of Thai history and cultural studies in the Australian National University’s College of Asia and the Pacific, will show how recent Thailand’s now very public queer communities are having come into being in the later decades of the 20th century.
