Dear Partners and Friends of SEA Junction,

As we find ourselves in the middle of June, we embrace yet another month of significance. World Refugee Day, observed annually on 20 June, calls for solidarity with refugees worldwide. Together with five local and regional organizations, we are organizing an event to shed light on the current challenges faced by refugees and advocate for a more compassionate refugee policy from the new Thai government.

Our dedication to the environment remains unwavering, and we are proud to continue our partnership with Bangkok Tribune News. This time, we focus on the criticality of sustainable development goals through a special forum along with a photo exhibition at Museum Siam.

Amidst our endeavors, we are also aware of the urgent issue of sex trafficking. Building upon our “Wednesday SEA Mobilities” series in collaboration with the IPSR, we have a special partnership with GAATW’s series on “Towards Safe Southeast Asia-Europe Migration Corridors.” Together, we are hosting an online event where speakers will engage in an interactive discussion on fostering a victim-centric and trauma-informed approach, uniting victim service providers and law enforcement to ensure justice.

Moreover, June holds international recognition as Pride Month, a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and advocate for their rights and equality. In line with this meaningful occasion, we are excited to organize a film screening and discussion of “Lotus Sports Club,” a powerful documentary that delves into LGBTQ+ identity, family dynamics, growing up in Cambodia, and the transformative power of football.

For detailed information about our upcoming events, please refer to the section below. Additionally, we had a few notable events earlier this month, including the book launch of “Who Cares? COVID-19 Social Protection Response in Southeast Asia” and our #WhatsHappeninginMyanmar Monthly Updates. If you missed these events, you can re-watch them here. And if you are interested in the book, it is available for order and purchase at SEA Junction and Silkworm.

Last but not least, we would like to share an update on one of our special initiatives. Our call for proposals under the Small Grants Program garnered an overwhelming response, and we apologize for the delay in announcing the results. Rest assured, we are working diligently to review all the submissions, and a list of grantees will be soon announced by the end of this month.

We hope you will continue to find our program of interest. We count on your participation and help in sharing the information about our programs with your network. And, if you would like to support us, please click on the donation box below.

Best regards,
Lia Sciortino Sumaryono

Living the Coup: Collective Diary of Daily Life in Myanmar

How people in Myanmar are coping with the junta control and wide-spread conflict is the focus of this project in collaboration with Asia Justice and Rights (AJAR). “Living the Coup” aims to document the personal stories of people and mold them into a collective diary—a history not to be dismissed nor forgotten. The call for written, photo and art stories remains open and some stories have been already published on our page.
