Dear Partners and Friends of SEA Junction,
SEA Junction stays resilient and we continue our operation amid the pandemic albeit with some adjustments. We have fewer events and we allow only a limited number of people to our premises to ensure enforcement of social distancing measures.
SEA Junction has partnered with the Bangkok Tribune in collaboration with GreenNews and Project Sevana South-East Asia to host a series of monthly Dialogue Forum on social and environmental issues in Thailand and the larger Greater Mekong Sub-region with the support of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (Thailand Office). The past five forums in Thai language, a blending of people in the venue and online broadcasting, are available to watch on Bangkok Tribune’s Facebook (full live videos) and YouTube (highlight videos with English subtitle). For the upcoming Dialogue Forum 6 at the end of September, please stay tuned for more details on our social media.
To compensate for the reduced number of public events, we have launched a number of special initiatives. As you can read in more details below, we have recently launched the “Staying Resilient Amid the Pandemic in Southeast Asia” small-grant program to support local initiatives to address COVID-19 and its longer-term social and health impacts.
We also wish to highlight the ongoing special initiatives that are open for photo and art essays submission. As you can read below, the first focuses on documenting our experiences and realities in living amid the pandemic, while the second devotes attention to the unremitting environmental degradation of the Mekong River.
We are aware that with this crisis there are many needs and we all are contributing to various efforts. Still, if you can, please consider supporting SEA Junction as we try to adjust to these uncertain times. To donate is easy, just click the box below and it will bring to our designated website page where you can transfer electronically with PayPal. If you prefer to transfer via bank our dedicated account for our Foundation for Southeast Asia Studies is TMB #043 -7-18114-2. For those in the US, we can provide tax-benefits through our institutional partner. No matter the amount you give, it will help us overcome this challenging time and reconfigure our activities in a way that conforms with the times.
Please continue to follow us and keep safe!
Best regards,
Lia Sciortino Sumaryono

Call for Proposal, Small Grant Program
“Staying Resilient Amid the Pandemic in Southeast Asia”
All over the region civil society groups, communities and committed individuals have shown great resilience and solidarity. All kind of small-scale initiatives have been started to battle the COVID-19 pandemic and cope with its impacts, from providing relief goods and PPE equipment to launching education campaigns and financial schemes. Recognising the importance of these diverse initiatives and the fact that they are often undertaken with minimal resources, SEA Junction has launched a 3-year small grant program with support of the China Medical Board Foundation and WIEGO. The program provides funds to efforts working to build social capital, strengthen community resilience, improve the living and health conditions of local communities (geographical as well as functional) and enhance their capacity to cope with the current crisis and its aftermaths.
From Fear to Resilience:
Visual Storytelling of COVID-19 in Southeast Asia
This special initiative invites all to make an effort to collectively provide a different visual story of the pandemic in Southeast Asia that shows strength and hope. We are asking for short stories in the form of photo essays, short documentaries and illustrated art essays in any language of the region (to be later translated into English) or in English that document the experiences and realities of COVID-19 in the region.

The Mekong is Blue and Dried:
Visual Storytelling of the Mekong River’s Environmental Degradation
This initiative launched by SEA Junction with the support of the Samdhana Institute aims to contribute to the ongoing advocacy efforts to enhance the sustainability of the Mekong River through the creative use of visual documentation and art. The photos and art works accompanied by a short essay reflect on environmental degradation and its impacts of riparian communities.
