5th Event of the “The Rice of Southeast Asia” Series: Photo Exhibition “Rice Terraces in the Greater Mekong Sub-region” by Giuseppe di Mauro
3 December, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 15 December, 2019 @ 7:00 pm
In recognition of the centrality of rice in Southeast Asian culture, in 2017 SEA Junction in collaboration with Asiatopia launched the series the “Rice of Southeast Asia”. The series aimed to explore the various dimensions of rice, from mythology and culture to science and agriculture through lectures, exhibitions and other events.
The 5th event to the series will be a solo photo exhibition on the “Rice Terraces of the Greater Mekong Sub-region” by photographer Giuseppe Di Mauro, which will find place on 3-15 December, from 11 AM to 7 PM in the Corner Space of BACC. The exhibition portrays the changes of rice terraces in the region from soil preparation to harvest drying, highlighting the types of land destined for paddies, both flat and mountainous. In particular, the exhibited photos will showcase six moments in the natural cycle of rice, namely when the rice fields are flooded for preparation, moments of sowing, the green paddies phase of growing plantation, the yellow paddies phase of rice maturation, the harvest moments and finally the drying methods.
The photos were taken between 2010 and 2017 in the Greater Mekong Subregion by camera Nikon D90/ DX7200
