October is a busy month for SEA Junction. Here we highlight the main activities to keep you updated and to invite those in Bangkok to attend.
8-16 OCTOBER: PHOTO EXHIBITION “BEYOND TOLERANCE: LIVING TOGETHER WITH MIGRANTS”
The photo exhibition by documentary photographer, John Hulme, is a collaboration with the Mekong Migrant Network (MMN). The exposed pictures capture the aspirations and struggles of migrants in destination and home countries and raise the issue of migrants’ integration into society.
The opening event will take place on 8 October (Sat) at 3pm at Room 501 (5th fl), BACCand will include migrants’ cultural performances, public discussion and a multimedia presentation highlighting the impact of social exclusion of migrants.
Selected photos and the multimedia presentation will continue to be exhibited at SEA Junction, Room 408 (4th fl), BACC until 16 October (full day).
The final event will take place one day earlier on 15 October (Sat) at 5:30pm at SEA Junction, Room 408 (4th fl), BACC and will consist of a conversation with the photographer John Hulme on his art and techniques as well as the reasons of his engagement.

12 OCTOBER: PANEL ON “ASEAN GOVERNANCE: IS THERE A ROLE FOR CIVIL SOCIETY?”
Provocatively asking if there is a role for civil society in ASEAN governance, the panel to be held on 12 October 2016 (Wed) at 5.30PM at SEA Junction in collaboration with the Heinrich Böll Stiftung Southeast Asia, will start from the assumption that to realize a people-centered ASEAN as promised in the ASEAN Charter, the contribution of civil society groups to regional development cannot be ignored. Panelists will reflect on how ASEAN and civil society groups can address the challenge of a more representative governance system and provide concrete strategies to this aim for the future of ASEAN as a growing institution and of the region as a whole.

13-21 OCTOBER: ASIATOPIA PERFORMANCE ART CONFERENCE IN SOUTHEAST ASIA 2016
SEA Junction will collaborates with the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, ASIATOPIA and the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University to present the 2006 ASIATOPIA Performance Conference S.E. Asia This year conference marks the 10th Anniversary of seminars and live performances by South East Asia and international artists and academics including Germany, Finland, USA and Japan. ASIATOPIA Performance Conference S.E. Asia 2016 aims to document historical data and insight on South East Asian performing art in order to promote and raise awareness of this particular art in the region as well as foster relationship and build up networking between the artists in South East Asia and all around the world. The conference and related performances will be at BACC on 13-16 October and at Silpakorn University on 17-21 October.
