Paid Curating Course
5 February, 2023
Students of the one-year New Curators programme will cover all aspects of the profession and get the chance to organize a major show at South London Gallery.
WHY?
We Know that the training to become a curator is expensive and entering the profession can be difficult. Little wonder our industry is often seen as elitist and characterized by a lack of diversity, we want to help make the art world more accessible and equitable because we believe this will make it richer and more relevant.
By offering an intensive twelve-month curatorial training and London living wage to 12 people from lower socio-economic backgrounds globally we will help diversify the curatorial profession.
WHAT?
Our course is designed to equip participants with the knowledge, practical skills, networks, and confidence needed to thrive in the curatorial profession.
The program is divided into five strands:
Academic seminars –In curatorial theory and practice and art history.
Skill Training-covering essential topics as writing for different audiences, public speaking, budgeting and fundraising.
Network development-Meetings with a wide range of curators, artists and arts profession and regular studio, gallery and museum visits in the UK and internationally.
Exhibition making –Extensive practical experience working collaboratively on exhibitions, publications and public programmes.
